A true classic of modern Western fiction. It tells the story of a brutal Texas drought and how it impacts noble rancher Charlie Flagg. It won the Spur Award of the Western Writers of America as best novel of the year in 1973.

Wow.. just finished this one after barely setting it down after starting it yesterday. Definitely one of the better books that I've read, and while I'm sorry I missed out reading it while it was the monthly read, am glad that I finally got around to reading it.
Surely one of the finest books I read last year.
