I'm looking for a book I've read years ago, I can't remember a lot of specific details. It's historical romance set in regency England, a widow announces to her male friend that she is ready to remarry. His hopes are raised because he thinks she means she wants to marry him. He was either a good friend or relative of her deceased husband and had started visiting to offer her comfort but then they had started having an affair. She thinks he's not the marrying type so doesn't consider him as a possible husband. That's all I can remember. And it's not 'when he was wicked' by Julia Quinn.

Edit: still looking for this book. I can remember the scene when he is making a morning call and she announces its time to get married and he thinks for a second she means him but then is disappointed when she obviously isn’t considering him... possibly she is ending their affair.
