Quantum (quantumkatana) How does amazon calculate page count on the catalog page--not the kindle page count for determining the KU subscription payout? I had read earlier in one of the GR group threads that if a print copy exists, then they'll use that page count.

Is that true, and if so, then what if it's an ebook only?

The reason why I'm asking is because the Amazon Short Reads category lists page counts and the number of minutes for each category and if I write a short, then how do I determine from the # of words, which category to target. From a cursory examination, I calculated somewhere b/w 210 - 240 words/page.

Can second this with my own experience

Marie Silk | 1025 comments Good luck, Alex!

They have been spazzstick about my page counts. For instance, my book 45K words is 190 pages in print. Amazon lists it as 148 pages for Kindle. But when someone reads it on Kindle Unlimited, it only counts as 120 pages, yet Amazon lists the number of KENP pages at 228.

The page counts fluctuate even with word counts. My book at 49K words ended up with less pages than my book with 45K. Chapter breaks, spacing, and other factors made the difference.

Quantum (quantumkatana) I just looked at Davenport house (book 1) and it is 188pp print but 190pp on kindle. Is that throne your referring to?

Quantum (quantumkatana) Right, I recall you saying that now. I guess you were the one hat I referred to but didn't remember. Thx! So I guess that's my best bet to get the page count that I want. For shorts the page count seems important b/c when I did my market analysis, the 2-hr+ (65-100pp) category was getting the highest sales rankings (the low thousands) of all the top 10 bestsellers in all the "skirts" categories. So that's the one I want to target.

Quantum (quantumkatana) I meant "shorts" not "skirts"! Damn autocorrect.

Yes I meant the first book. Hmm, they used to show the kindle version at 148 so I don't know what's up with that :).
