Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments Today was the halfway point for our little read-a-thon. Are you hanging in there? Tell us...

What challenges and distractions have you faced?

What has been your favorite part so far?

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon?

message 2: by Keri (new)

Keri 1. I don't feel I've really run into any challenges. Just a couple of distractions like my baby and the TV, lol.
2. My favorite part has probably been seeing not only my own but my other team members progress.
3. So far I've read three books, which is really good for me since I haven't read as much lately.
4. Main goal is to get through at least one more book and help out the team anyway I can!
5. Playing on the team is what has gotten me involved in this read-a-thon! It had helped made me accountable and also made it SO much more fun! :)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3268 comments What challenges and distractions have you faced?
Just a pretty busy week in general, but nothing too unusual. A little bit of work stress, and just general exhaustion at the end of the day.

What has been your favorite part so far?
I actually really loved the game where I had to find a word in the book for every letter of the alphabet. That, and reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
I've read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Love Letters to the Dead, and Callum. I've read a total of 706 pages so far, and done about 16 hours of reading. I've also managed to participate in every game so far.

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?
Fill in more of the individual bingo card

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon?
Surprisingly enough, for someone who really can't stand group projects, I've really enjoyed working with the team. I have a really, really hard time keeping track of where we stand but that's probably because I'm so tired by the end of the day when I check in, that I can't focus properly. I find working with the team more motivating than doing the read-a-thon individually like we did last time.

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments What challenges and distractions have you faced?
I had an emergency work meeting and, due to our unexpected but exciting news, a few doctor's appointments I hadn't anticipated. I've got this weekend off though and I intend to make the most of it.

What has been your favorite part so far? The group challenge has been a lot of fun. It is great to see the group come together in a cooperative way.

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon? I feel like I haven't really accomplished much but, if I can pull it off, I'd like to end the week with 1,500 pages read.

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon? I want to finish the three books I'm currently reading.

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon? So much fun! It's an extra challenge and I love that.

Andrea | 456 comments What challenges and distractions have you faced?
I usually dive into one book at time. For this challenge, I juggled two at once. Enjoying one during the day and reading the other in the evening has helped.

What has been your favorite part so far?
I like the games and camaraderie.

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
Pages read in total (excluding audiobook): 387
Total approximate time spent reading: 10 hr
Total approximate time spent listening to audiobooks: 6.5 hr
Total number of books completed for read-a-thon: 2
Total hours read outside: 1
Number of ATY challenge books completed: 0
Read-A-Thon game participation: 5/12

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?
I wish to keep up with the ATY challenge, so I started Faust for Week 10. If I complete this, then I will attempt to finish another ATY book that will fill the individual bingo challenge.

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon?

This is my first read-a-thon. I think that it is fun.

I have had an unusual amount of appointments this week. Usually I would read while waiting but waiting rooms are not the quiet places they used to be.

What has been your favorite part so far?The Bingo games have been fun and putting my challenges aside to just read fun stuff has been very nice.

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
Pages Read: 982
Books Read (#) 8

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon? I am plugging away on a book I had started prior to the readathon. I hope to have it completed this weekend.

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon? It has because I read more graphic novels, short stories, etc. than I normally would have. Usually I would read simply for a page count so groups changed things, for the better I think.

message 7: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments What challenges and distractions have you faced? Not really challenges but last night I needed a break and watched tv instead of reading. Tonight I'm going to this huge event so obviously not much reading will be done and I'm planning on sleeping most of tomorrow ;)

What has been your favorite part so far? The team Bingo definitely. It is a great addition to the read-a-thon and it motivated me to read even more!

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon? I listened to 12 hours of audiobook, which allowed me to finish The Forgotten Garden, which I didn't think I would be able to. I only read 373 pages, but finished 2 books (Face Paint: The Story of Makeup and Fables).

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon? I want to finish Big Fish for sure and try to read Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang, but I'm not sure I'm going to have time to.

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon? It motivated me to read more, even though I spent a lot more time here on Goodreads ;) It also allowed me to know other members a bit better!

message 8: by Joann (new)

Joann What challenges and distractions have you faced?
Not really challenges, but just typical life. Errands, chores, etc.

What has been your favorite part so far?
I've enjoyed the group Bingo

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
Completed a book I had already started and started and finished two others. I've listened to about 4 hrs of an audiobook and half way through another paperback.

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?
I'd like to finish both the paperback and audiobook I've now started

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon?
This is the first read-a-thon I've done so I can't compare, but I've really enjoyed the team fun.

Kathy E | 3319 comments What challenges and distractions have you faced?
I was very busy early in the week with travel, work and social events.

What has been your favorite part so far?
The Bingo card (I'm not in a group) and the games

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
I've read 4 books and one short story. I've completed 7 boxes on the bingo card but not a bingo yet!

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?
Finish the three books I'm reading right now.

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon?
I'm not on a team - I figured I was too busy to contribute early in the week. Maybe next time! Looks like fun.

Erica | 555 comments What challenges and distractions have you faced?
Just my baby :)

What has been your favorite part so far?
Reading and Group Bingo. Go Team Peach!

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
Finished The Queen of the Night (was at 65% to start) and read Homegoing.
Total page count: 505

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?
Read The Assistants and maybe start Behold the Dreamers.

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon?
I've tried the games more than I would have, but it's hard to get time with my computer and hard to play some of them on my phone (can't make spoiler tags).

Thegirlintheafternoon What challenges and distractions have you faced?
I have two jobs, one of which is in the midst of its busiest period of the year, so I don't have a ton of reading time right now. I also started two books that became DNFs within a couple of chapters, so that was a little demoralizing, and another one that I'm working on is in that weird space of "I like it enough to want to finish it but not enough to actually pick it up and read it."

What has been your favorite part so far?
Prioritizing reading! I spent all night Wednesday reading instead of doing anything else, and I managed to finish a book I'd thought would take much longer.

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
I've finished 3 books and am in-progress on 3 others.

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?
Finish the 3 books I'm working on now, and maybe squeeze in another one, if possible!

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon?
I'm not on a team - figured it wasn't fair to sign up when I couldn't really prioritize reading as much as I'd hoped.

message 12: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 546 comments Work has definitely been a distraction this week. I have also been dealing with a tragedy that happened where I live that hit a little too close to home. I'm still trying to process things so haven't been reading much.

My favorite part has definitely been the Group Bingo.

So far I have read 1 book and have been making progress on A Feast for Crows (still haven't reached my 200 page goal for this book though).

I think it has taken away some reading time by participating in a group. I think it's worth the sacrifice though to interact more with others in the group.

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) What challenges and distractions have you faced?
I had a very hard time getting my audiobook to play at first. Other than that, no issues.

What has been your favorite part so far?
Helping my team to check off as many squares as possible. Oh and some of the games.

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
I have finished 1 book and am almost done with 3 others.

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?
Finish the other 3 books I started and complete the rest of the games.

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon? It makes it easier to complete bingo squares by making it a team effort. It also motivates me to spend more time reading this week.

Zaz | 2969 comments What challenges and distractions have you faced?
I had social life :p

What has been your favorite part so far?
The team bingo and the scramble and guess the cover games :)

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
I finished a novella, a graphic novel, a book for the AtY RC and an audiobook started before.

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?
I've 2 books I want to finish :)

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon?
It motivates me to read more than the usual read-a-thon and it influenced some of my reading choices.

message 16: by Katie (last edited Aug 26, 2016 06:34PM) (new)

Katie | 2360 comments What challenges and distractions have you faced?
I have been INSANELY busy this week. I usually get off work at 5, but every day this week, I haven't gotten home before 7 pm. And yesterday I was gone from 7 am until after midnight. It's really impeded my reading time, and then I've been exhausted when I got home.

What has been your favorite part so far?
Definitely the group bingo. I took the roll of tracking and coordinating for my team & I've loved it.

What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
I've read 6 books so far! I am totally surprised to have stepped up my reading game so much. I was in a bit of a slump earlier this month.

What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?
I want to finish at least one more book, so I'll have read one book for every day of the challenge. I also want Team Cherry to finish our bingo card.

If you're playing along with a team, how has that changed your read-a-thon?
This is my first read-a-thon, so I don't know how it was doing it without the team challenge, but this team challenge has basically been the reading challenge for me. I've been so excited to work together and plan and track progress. Our team is doing so awesome. I've really enjoyed it.
