I mentioned to you on Saturday that I read and am reading two books suggested by Anna Quindlen that I CAN’T PUT DOWN.
Unless we change the book for October in September (so don’t buy it yet) our October book is THE OBITUARY WRITER by Ann Hood. I put a hold on this book and her other book THE KNITTING CIRCLE at the library. Happy reading.

"It's that time of year when the garden flowers are beginning to look tired and tattered, a couple of white tee shirts are beyond redemption, and the barbeque grill needs more help than a wire brush can provide. It's also the moment when tradition decrees that book recommendations should be lighter than air, books about nothing.
"I just can't.
"Here are two books that are about something, a whole lot of something. William Kent Krueger's Ordinary Grace and Elizabeth Brundage's All Things Cease to Appear. Both are nominally mystery novels, but they are truly about the mysteries of family, friendship, marriage and human relationships. Both are beautifully written and imagined, so masterful that after finishing each I went to the writer's website and sent a message of admiration.
"These are books you live in and then remember for a long time afterwards. I understand the appeal of the beach book, but there are only so many hours in a day, and I like some of them to matter."
