When did you read this book? Or when do you think this book came out?
It's definitely newer. Probably within the last 2 years. I read it a few weeks ago, maybe in early July?
Did she want to leave the tower? Why do they take her?
If I can remember correctly, she was forced to. I think people were coming for her and the caretakers, and they had to leave? Something about being forced to leave out of necessity, I'm pretty sure.
And it wasn't that they were taking her, she went willingly with the boy, but it was out of necessity.

This has been seriously bothering me for some time.
It's a young adult novel where the girl is in a tower and is taken care of by a woman and a man. It's a post-apocalyptic tale, where a boy comes to the tower with a young girl, and then takes the main heroine from the tower and they venture out into the post-apocalyptic landscape. There is also something about them climbing into trees into a tree community, I think?
