Tiff Riddle (daldermort) | 4 comments her mother raises her in an isolated place with regular visits from an old family friend/pseudo uncle before her mother dies and she is sent to a mage academy/school/community there is 4 or 5 other mages at this school/community and from memory they all turn out to be evil. she defeats them/some of them. she becomes friends with some of the lower class people and one of them live in a cave i think near the sea.
I think in book two of the series there is a winged race. and she talks with a whale leviathan when crossing the sea.
She ends up falling in love with her "uncle".
I keep thinking the name of the girl and title of the first book is Auria/Aurelle/Aur"something" but i could be wrong and google isn't showing anything up either.

Jay Dee | 6 comments It sounds almost like Wild Magic. She talks with a kraken in it. I don't really remember there being a mage school but she does have a rare type of magic. There is an uncle/teacher type character that she falls in love with later. He doesn't visit her and her mother though. And there are metal bird people called Stormwings.

Maybe for the name you are thinking of an earlier book in the same universe Alanna: The First Adventure?

Tiff Riddle (daldermort) | 4 comments Nope neither of these :/ but thank you. :) it does sound like wild magic but its not.

Tiff Riddle (daldermort) | 4 comments i found it after A LOT of reading of random forums and 100 best fantasy series type lists.

It was Aurian by Maggie Furey.

I'm not sure how to mark this as solved?

Glad you found your book, Tiff. Here's the link - Aurian by Maggie Furey.

This seems to be a popular book, requested and solved eight times in the group.

I marked this as solved (as explained by C). You need to be using the desktop (not mobile) version of the website to see the "edit" link.
