lethe | 16363 comments When I went looking for a couple of Andersen collections on GR, I noticed that somebody must at some point earlier this month have pressed autocombine, because in spite of the numerous librarian notes telling not to combine and/or specifying the number of fairy tales in an edition, many were/are lumped under the Complete Fairy Tales.

I started separating the ones with librarian notes one by one from the combine page (because notes are not visible on the separate page). But since that took forever, I went on to separate batches of non-complete editions from the separate page (looking for obvious clues such as page count and title), thinking that after they had been separated out from the complete editions we could then see which ones should stay together.

However, after one or two batches I lost heart. There are still over 520 editions to go through, and it's such a mess. Not to mention the ones that are not combined but should be.

If anyone's up for a challenge, feel free.

(In the time I've worked on it I managed to find two of the three collections I own, so I'm happy for now.)

Georgeana | 770 comments I've gone ahead and separated as many as I could from the combine page using librarian notes and they are now down to less than 500 editions for this work. There is still much work to be done for this and other Andersen so I might work on it periodically as I find the time.
