30.3 - Jonquil’s Task- May all of your ups and downs in life be with a needle and thread.

Reading is my escape, but quilting is my solace. I've made enough quilts to change my bed linen’s theme each Saturday. I started with major holidays, other cultures, and fantasy realms. When I got bored, I expanded to quilts with (1) eyeballs that glow in the dark; (2) quotes “spelled out” in hieroglyphics; (3) fairy houses; (4) beach toys; (5) Doctor Who; (6) international dragons; and (7) hunting lodge decor.

This is a TWO book task.
Your Folk Art assignment is to design a quilt theme for two of the less-well-known quirky holidays that occur during the fall listed at Fun Holidays

Book 1: Select a September -November holiday from the Fun Holidays website’s list. Only holidays that appear on the Fun Holidays list from September 1-November 30 may be used.

Read a book that has a cover with any object or scenario that you think could be used to represent that quirky holiday’s celebration. Only cover images may be used, not the title graphic, author's name, series name or other design element (borders, award symbols, etc).
Required: State the holiday and its date. Include the cover when you post. Explain the relationship of the book-cover object(s) to your selected holiday’s theme as it will appear on your quilt.

Book 2: Repeat for a second (different) holiday from the Fun Holidays website's list.

Be creative; push the envelope; this is Folk Art. Have fun!!

Examples:

Life is a Circus Run by a Platypus by Allison Hawn National Absurdity Day, November 20, My quilt has a platypus dressed as a Ringmaster doing tricks in front of the Big Top.

Death at the Day Lily Cafe by Wendy Sand Eckel Eat an Extra Dessert Day, September 4. My quilt has appliqued cupcakes.

Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer International Observe the Moon Night, October 8, My quilt has a moon in a central panel with patchwork stars in the border.

Bea Creative, I am not. However, I will give this a try.

Double-Booked for Death (Black Cat Bookshop Mystery, #1) by Ali Brandon Read a Book Day, September 6. My quilt would have multiple panels of books...much like a library.

A Killer Read (Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery #1) by Erika Chase Author's Day, November 1. My quilt would reflect favorite places to read in the center panels surrounded by panels with names of favorite authors and favorite book titles.

OR

Hooked on Murder (Crochet Mystery, #1) by Betty Hechtman Make a Hat Day, September 15. My quilt would have panels of different hats - crocheted, knitted, made of felt as well as elaborate hats, simple hats, old hats, baby hats, etc.

Tragic Toppings (Donut Shop Mystery, #5) by Jessica Beck Eat an Extra Dessert Day, September 4. My quilt would have panels with different beloved desserts - doughnuts, pie, cake, cookies, ice cream cones, banana splits, etc.

These are four of the cozy mysteries that I own and would enjoy reading.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3040 comments okay for Book 1 I have Hug Your Hound Day September 14 and going to read Hounded to Death (Melanie Travis, #14) by Laurien Berenson Dog is on the cover.
Book 2 is Read a Book day on September 6th and I am reading Murder is Binding (Booktown Mystery, #1) by Lorna Barrett . It takes place in a bookstore.

or I'm Not Her by Janet Gurtler - for forget me not day? Girl in a garden shredding flowers petals?

or A Matter of Trust (Mia Quinn, #1) by Lis Wiehl for a chic spy day? Based on the woman with well coiffed hair and a gun at the back.

Sorry, Lauren, the ideas are fine, however, Ferris Wheel Day is in February and Lover's Day is in April, and we are limited to Fall holidays- September, October, November.

Just a suggestion, but have you considered Positive Thinking Day or Make Your Bed Day for
Deadly Descent (Bagram Special Ops Series) by Kaylea Cross

or Go For a Ride Day for

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments So, I've had a few ideas which I think work, but I'd like to run them past you to make sure I've got the right idea:

6 September is Read A Book day
Literally Murder (Black Cat Bookshop Mystery #4) by Ali Brandon : My quilt could have the look of a book case – brown fabric edges and stripes, with rectangles of fabric in different colours for the books.

19 September is Talk Like a Pirate Day
A Treacherous Treasure (Mooseamuck Island Cozy Mystery, #3) by Leighann Dobbs , Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson : My quilt could show a desert island in the foreground with a treasure chest in the sand, then blue and green fabrics for the sea, with a small wooden sailing ship in the opposite corner to the island.

8 October is International Observe The Moon Day.
A Spell Of Trouble (Silver Hollow Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series Book 1) by Leighann Dobbs : My quilt could be black with a a central moon surrounded by stars, quite possibly with a black cat silhouette.

26 October is Howl At The Moon Day (and Night)
Kitty Goes to Washington (Kitty Norville, #2) by Carrie Vaughn (Kitty is a werewolf): My quilt could look like a stylised forest with a full moon above the trees and wolves running through the trees.

26 November is Cake Day
Sprinkle with Murder (Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #1) by Jenn McKinlay : My quilt could have a central frame like a cake stand with fabric cupcakes on it, maybe against a pink or yellow background.

Or The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender : My quilt could have a top down “pie chart” view of an iced or decorated cake (one slice pulled free maybe), surrounded by a “plate” in patterned fabric, maybe on a red and white gingham style background

Book 1: {11-23: Fibonacci Day}
Math for Mystics From the Fibonacci Sequence to Luna's Labyrinth to Golden Section and Other Secrets of Sacred Geometry by Renna Shesso Math for Mystics: From the Fibonacci Sequence to Luna's Labyrinth to Golden Section and Other Secrets of Sacred Geometry

Book 2: {11-6: Saxophone Day}
The Bass Saxophone by Josef Škvorecký The Bass Saxophone

Wayne- You have a winner here. All you need is an object from a book cover to use on your quilt. You have Anarras on the book cover, so you're golden.
When you post, explain that your quilt will have a moon named Anarrus and a planet named Urras rising behind it.
