Nicola | 1360 comments My choices are:

1. The Light Fantastic (Discworld, #2) by Terry Pratchett - Take a Ride day on a magic flying luggage (it would also work for Magic and Absurd day :-))

&

2. The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi for Positive Thoughts day because the buddha looks like he's making everything float around him using the power of his glowing mind.

Very creative, Nicola. Looks like you might need Dramamine for the flying luggage. Have fun!

Jamie | 421 comments This is a fun help thread (and a fun task!)

I don't have any ideas yet, was just looking for inspiration but I enjoyed it!

Thanks, Jamie, I tried to create a task that people would enjoy and that would allow them to find a place for that odd book that never fits any of the tasks but is due at the library in 6 days.

How about this cover? The lady is bowing down, asking for a pardon --

My Wife's Affair by Nancy Woodruff

Thanks!

Very dramatic, Deedee, this will work quite well.

Gabriella | 234 comments Would these work?:

Lady Susan by Jane Austen - Sep 6, Fight Procrastination Day

Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #5) by J.R. Ward - Nov 10, Forget Me Not Day

Brejo Das Almas by Carlos Drummond de Andrade - Nov 1, Author's Day - The cover is a picture of the author

That's perfect, Marie--happy hat sewing.

Yes, Gabriella, but be cautious as you describe your quilts. Example: "Surely this woman has better things to do than sit around behind a picture frame so my quilt shows her as an example of procrastination." or "Who could forget that kiss? My quilt shows memorable moments including "Hero" and "Heroine" kissing."
Happy reading.

Melissa (balletbookworm) | 915 comments Ok, I think I've got this figured out :)

Book 1: The Madwoman Upstairs by Catherine Lowell - Author's Day, November 1; my quilt would have appliqued quill pens inking words all over my crazy quilt of blocks that look like notepaper (words from the Brontes, of course ;) )
Book 2: I'm Judging You The Do-Better Manual by Luvvie Ajayi - International Skeptics Day, October 13; this quilt would have a big central pieced section with this lollipop giving massive side-eye to anything it doesn't believe in or want (UFOs, ghosts, Bigfoot, yetis, chupacabras, RUOSs, yellow Starburst (seriously, give those to people you don't like bc they're gross)) all of which would be appliqued around the edges.

How'd I do? ;)

Melissa- I can't tell you how strongly I wish you were actually making those delightfully imaginative quilts. Go for it with your choices!!

Thanks Jonquil :) So many of my books right now have abstract or text-only cover designs so this was an unexpectedly tricky task.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Would this cover work for Take a Hike Day?

Dying In the Wool (Kate Shackleton, #1) by Frances Brody - looks like she is hiking and taking pictures.

Thanks.

Certainly, Lauren. Simply explain "my quilt will show places people can take a hike such as the road and hills shown here."

message 68: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 421 comments Checking to see if these work:

Love Spell by Mia Kerick for 9/26 Love Note Day

My quilt would have a spot that celebrates a great way to show our love for others, writing them love notes

and book 2 Sweet and Sour by Astrid Amara has a pickle store on the cover to encourage people to buy pickles for 11/4 Pickle Day

Thanks!

Since you've come to my quilting workshop, Jamie, I'd suggest

Quilt 1 will have colorful appliqued hearts with short love notes written on them with fabric pens.
Quilt 2 will feature a reproduction of the photo of the Piekus Pickle Deli

Now I'm off to add pickles to my lunch...

Katie | 241 comments Here's what I'm thinking so far:

Reader, I Married Him Stories Inspired by Jane Eyre by Tracy Chevalier
September 6 - Read a Book Day
My quilt will be black and red with green books & posies on it.

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
November 22 - Go For a Ride Day
My quilt will be red with embroidered black railroad tracks all over it, just like this book cover.
