Nick Edward | 4 comments Guess I blew it when I tried to add a new cover addition. My intent was to create one and then combine it with the original in order to default to the new cover.

It seems I've ended up with a new book which apparently is different from a new edition. I say that because I tried to follow the directions on the combining editions video, but I get no "combine" link.

Also, in addition, I added another copy without a cover. Can a librarian just delete this one? Thanks in advance.

Update: I have merged the blank edition and have added the hyperlink to the alternate-cover edition. However, I am getting "Page unavailable" messages. Will try again in a few moments. Looks like we're good to go now.

Nick, it appears that you were attempting to create an alternate-cover edition of your book, per Goodreads policy. (See Author FAQ and Adding an alternate-cover edition.)

It's very important to remember to leave the original listing details as they are. It is against Goodreads policy to remove the ASIN (or ISBN) in order to add a new edition. I reverted the changes you made to the original listing, and I added a link to the new alternate-cover edition that you created.

Here is your new alternate-cover edition: Relayor

You can see that I added a Librarian Note to this edition as well, this time linking back to the original. As explained in the instructions on adding an ACE (see above), the publication date is the current month and year.

As the author, you can set the default edition—that is, the one that comes up in searches by title and shows on your author profile. Here's how to do that.

Helpful hint—when you use the "Add a New Edition" option on the book listing, it automatically combines the new edition with the current one.

Nick Edward | 4 comments Gracias! All done.

Nick Edward | 4 comments Well, I thought I was all done. I went into edit and clicked the selection making the new cover the default. However, when I Google the book and click on the Goodreads link, I'm taken to the page with the "edition" that shows the old, out of date cover, which looked okay a couple of years ago, but pales in comparison to the new one.

Is this simply a problem with Google? They haven't updated their links, perhaps? When I go to the new edition and click edit details, there's a note that it has been manually set to be the primary edition.

Again, thanks in advance! Sigh.
