The book has an illustrated cover with two characters on the cover. It's possibly young adult or maybe fantasy, at least I assume so. I remember getting a Harry Potter-esque vibe from the book, so I think it's an urban fantasy.
One character on the left(?) is a black boy possibly in his teens/early twenties and on the right is a boy of similar age with dark hair and glasses. Both are shown from (roughly) the waist up on this cover. At this point I'm pretty sure I dreamed this cover up because I haven't been able to find anything on it. But it's still worth a shot to see if anything comes up.
