Sarah Zama (jazzfeathers) | 31 comments Hi everyone. I'm just started to get involved with paying promos. I'm trying to boost my Kobo/Barns&Nobles/iBooks and if possible Smashwords books. I've just subscribed to a promo site (Book Batterfly) and I'd like to boost that promo a little, but every site I look up requires a link to Amazon.

My book is not availabe on Amazon at the moment, so I wonder if anyone may suggest promo sites (possibly free) that accept non-Amazon book.

If you could share ideas about promoting non-Amazon book in general (I mean, outside the normal author platform routine), especially Kobo, I'd be eternally grateful ^_^

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Any particular reason you haven't put it on Amazon? Most of the promo sites require a listing not only because it's the largest market, but also because they make their money with affiliate links.

Sarah Zama (jazzfeathers) | 31 comments It's just an experiment. I want to see whether it is possible to make a decent selling even without relying on Amazon. I want to see whether a diverse marketing is even possible ;-)

Ken (kendoyle) | 364 comments You could always do both--keep it on Amazon (just not enrolled in KDP Select) and list it on all the others.

I suspect you'll find, however, that Amazon accounts for at least 85% of your sales, which is the number I've seen quoted for their share of the indie market.

My books are practically everywhere, but my sales are overwhelmingly on Amazon. I suspect most authors have the same experience. You're probably unnecessarily depriving yourself of sales by avoiding the largest book market in the world. In fact, I'm seriously considering going exclusively with Amazon again, just to see if the new benefits are worth it.

Chuck | 10 comments It's free to put your book on Amazon with the regular KDP program (not KDP Select). KDP Select has certain restrictions on the first 90 days. If you don't have an ISBN Amazon will assign an ASIN for your book. Each format of the book requires a different ASIN.
