ABANDONED. children given special powers, kept hidden until school age

I read this book about six years ago, so excuse me if I'm a bit groggy on the details. The main characters are a group of children both boys and girls and an older woman, who took them. She gave them special powers and kept them hidden until she sents them off to a school where they use their powers to help them. I remember one the female characters being able to read minds and another being really smart.
