John Meszaros | 3 comments Since so many, if not most, of us play or have played RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, World of Darkness, GURPS, RIFTS, etc, I'm curious to know how your experiences with RPGs have influenced you as a writer.

Several famous authors, including Terry Pratchett and China Mieville, played role-playing games when they were younger, and the experiences have clearly been reflected to a degree in their works.

For me, the setting books for D&D games have really influenced how I build my worlds. I often like to peruse my old Forgotten Realms and Dark Sun splat books just to get a feel for the worlds slowly coming to life through all the little details.

More directly, the Underworld of my novel, At Yomi's Gate, was loosely inspired by the multiverse setting of the old Planescape game.
