Thanks for the method you used to get here. I went to groups then found this group.

I don't like the left column. I know what I'm currently reading (was 36 now down to 0, as I've changed the shelf name) & I know what I want to read (over 3,000 books there) & I know my shelf names.
So that's a total waste of space & every book cover is HUGE.
Middle section is weird, with friend reviews & huge book blurbs I don't want to see - you used to be able to hover & it would come up for the books you wanted to check out. Now every book is loud & proud, so you have to scroll, and scroll, and scroll, and scroll.
Right side is crap with recommendations you can't get rid of, like you used to be able to do. Ads - currently Oprah & featured groups and then lots & lots of empty space.
There are several add-ons to Chrome & Firefox which can do miracles apparently if you want to change everything to suit yourselves. Adblocker Plus & Elements Finder for Firefox & one of the members of Feedback has posted a Stylish fix https://userstyles.org/styles/131118/...
A couple of discussions I've been following:

I have a tough time thinking this is an amazon thing only because IMDB is not like that at all.
I think the idea is you will see a book by a friend and what to check it out. For me it does not work that way, generally it is a group chat thread that peaks my interest on new books and this is because my to read list is already ridiculous
They also have more room on the margins of the pages so why it is all flushed center? At first I thought this is just a change I am not used to it. Now I am like ick not a fan.

Thanks for the links!

So they know we don't want it, and know they are gonna catch hell and no one wants to work in that sorta environment. You can just see them biting their virtual tongues. They can't really think this is better.
But its the Sell, Sell, Sell stuff that really tips it to being Amazon driven.

Personally I don't like how the updates feel anymore, especially since it seems like nothing but book blurbs.

At least if it was the GR team there would be hope for something different or a return to the old homepage - Amazon nope not a chance it will stay

Crazy really, as a lot of people only come to GR for the cataloguing & the group discussions. And the groups help us find more books, thus doing their job for them.

wow you know I believe it. The only reason why I try new books is often because of group discussions.
Funny because as the group discussions have declined so has my desire to write good reviews now they are more like memos to me.

Usually, I get up & turn the computer on and it stays on till I go to bed. Now its late afternoon. And I never spend more than a couple of seconds on the homepage - just enough time to get to somewhere else.

When I logged on this morning I was up for a bit of a surprise
the homepage is different.
I had a bit of trouble finding my groups but my friends came up so that was nice. However this made me pause and wonder is goodeads trying to downplay groups and promote friends...what do you think?
