SOLVED. Children's adventure novel about a boy who drifted on an island and met a "cave" man [s]

I have not finished this book but I read it for my reading assignment during summer 2012. I remember vaguely that the cover is blue but no clue about the title or the author.

The book starts off with a boy and his parents on a boat. The boat either entered a big storm or the boy just slipped down the boat and fell into the sea. He woke up finding himself on an island. The boy was wandering around the island when he found a strange man. The man couldn't talk and he had a very "jungle" look. There was a part where the man left some coconut or food for the boy and ran away. The man could interact and talk to chimpanzee and monkeys. I'm not sure what happened then but the boy and the man got close and the boy was taught how to survive in the island. They both lived in a cave. If I'm not wrong, the man was a soldier who drifted on this island also and lived there since a long time ago. He also has a wife.

I only remember reading till then. It's been a long time so I'm not sure if all the details are correct but it was a good book as I recall. Please help me find it, I really want to read it again.

Sorry, I have no idea but the book was in the library school so it did appear to be scratch and dent
