Wouldn't this be better as a book?

As a dramaturg, I think this works well as a play, and the story, to me at least, seems a bit too simple for an entire book. It would quickly be boring.

a) Neville, Luna and the kids aren't a part of this story and are therefore logically left out. I think that's the way it should be. Pottermore is good, though, for more detail for the slightly more nerdy of us.

b) I agree with you here. Explanation could have been improved, also in the play.

c) When it comes to written drama, characters seem really flat. That's always like that, because characters in plays aren't supposed to come alive on paper, but on the stage. I wish I could see the play to see how they handle it there.

d) Hmm, I need to think about this more, so here I can't give my opinion yet.

I think many things would be better if it was a book, but since the pacing of the plot and the plot elements are so unlike JK's actual writing style, I'd rather it stay just a script so that the surprising parts seemed less real.

I would have loved for this to be a book instead. A proper 8th novel in the HP series. However, it would certainly need a lot more fleshing out if it was a novel. The pacing is too quick and the characterizations not deep enough for a book. I imagine it must work out pretty well on stage though, as it's meant to be experienced.

I would hate for a new Harry Potter novel to come out. The Harry Potter serial is finished, and I think it should stay that way. I like new things coming, like this play, the upcoming movie and the books from Hogwarts' library - but no "Harry Potter 8", that seems so wrong to me. (I also don't agree with calling this one "book 8".)
