The Giver
question
Trailer does not seem right!!!!?!!!

I decided to finally to read this book. Coincidentally, as I was researching it I found that it was part of a quartet and that there was a movie being released. After all these years. I just watched the trailer. To me it seems like the main character--Jonas--is too old in the movie. Is this Hollywood trying to make money off a classic dystopian to go along with the Hunger Game-Divergent trend. Because i do not like it. Hollywood needs to leave our books alone.
Everyone relax!!! For marketing purposes, they just didn't want to put off those who haven't read the book by having the first trailer be in black and white. However, a new featurette has been released that shows part of the film will be in black and white (possibly before Jonas realizes he has the ability to see color or in scenes shown from the perspectives of others who only see in black and white). What I'm more puzzled about is why Jonas and Gabriel are taken by the jet. The book leaves it open-ended. Has anyone read in the other books of this series that Jonas and Gabriel do get taken by the jet searching for them?
For lovers of books, all movies based on books are a disappointment, aren't they? Look through the list of movies you've seen after you read the book and tell me one time (sure just one) that you were happier with the Hollywood production than the original book? Forget happier, how about a simple yeah, it was ok. Let's look at Charlie and the Chocolate factory, a movie made twice. Each movie deviates from Dahl's book in some way or another. Neither is accurate and in very different ways. Hollywood is not out to market a movie to readers. they are out to sell tickets to those who are to lazy to read.
Now, that being said. let's look at today's movie market. No, a black and white movie would not sell tickets. Yes, some kind of techie crap is necessary to sell more tickets, which explains the spacecraft. Let's just agree that if we have read The Giver Quartet, any movie Hollywood puts together is going to be a disappointment.
Let them sell their tickets and we will stay loyal to the Lois Lowry as we should.
