There's 4 books set in this universe. The Giver ; Gathering Blue ; Messenger; and Son. It's listed as The Giver quartet here on goodreads.

Yay! I was so worried that all of the film would be in color.
Hayley, it's true they don't get captured by the search planes in the book, so that is a slight change. But if you watch the trailer, the head elder instructs Jonas' friend to, "Find him. Find him...and lose him." So the end result will be the same; Jonas will be an outcast from the community. It's not a HUGE change from the plot of the book.
