His actions are wrong he should have gone to the correct authorities and resolved everything above board. That said I understand why he did what he did and it was unfortunate the way things turned out.

Pip | 1822 comments His motivation was to protect his wife from the knowledge that his wife's first husband was still alive. He was an honourable man, which is why he always seemed to look so guilty. He tried to save a colleague and lost his life in the process. I judge that he acted rightly.

Like Book Worm, I'm in two minds about this.

John Seymour He did the wrong thing from the best of motives. He was at least guilty of manslaughter. A mean-spirited prosecutor could make out a case for felony murder. He was a good man who wanted to protect his wife and children from the kind of ugly scandal that we probably cannot even begin to fathom in our day and age. And he made the ultimate sacrifice attempting to save his fellow worker. He is probably the kind of man that all of us would love to have as a friend. But he acted wrongly. One may not do evil that good may result.
