Hello, everyone!
I'm Diéssica, 23 and I live in Brazil. I study psychology and graduate in December. I hope to be approved in the Master's exams I'll do in the next weeks.
I love YA books and currently I'm really into dystopia stories but I also like to read almost all kinds of genres. Besides reading I love watching TV series, and (shock!) studying. I love studying new languages but also improve the ones I know (english and spanish) and also study more about the topics I'm really interested in (gender, sexuality, hiv). Although I'm a psychology student I love reading books about these topics from authors who are not psychologists (anthropologists, sociologists and philosophers).
My fav story of all time is Harry Potter but I share a huge love for Divergent and Fangirl. I have two yt channels, one in portuguese and one in english - but the one in english has not been updated because I think it's going to be good for me to improve more my speaking speed and clarity before continue with the channel.
I love reading so so much but usually I haven't been getting time for that. I've doing a lot of things for university (final project and studying for two master selection, one in the public university from my city and one in Rio de Janeiro). I also have been thinking about what I'm going to talk about in the thesis project I need to do for one of the selections.
Sorry for the long text and for any english mistakes I committed. I'm looking forward to participate in the book club and to meet you all. xx

Harry Potter I've read in Portuguese because I started reading them fourteen years ago, when I was 9. I've already read the first two books in English but I wanna marathon the whole series in English. Divergent I have listened the four audiobooks twice in English and the films I've also only watched in English and I also want to marathon the books in English (like, really read them). And both of my channels are about books! :)
Oh, thank you so much! :) I've been working on my english skills for a long time but I still have a lot to improve :))

That's so amazing!
Did you learn English in school or did you take it up on your own?
Reading is such a great way to challenge yourself.
Do you find there much difference between the translated version and the English version?

I had English classes in school but there we learn the basics only (very very basics) so I actually learnt by myself - I studied for a year by myself through songs and news, then I took a year of classes in a private course (because of the grammar) and during this year I continued to study through songs, news and started to talking to other ppl in English in Internet (natives or not) then, in the next year, I continued to learn by myself through fiction books and after a while I started reading scientific articles, listening audiobooks and now I started reading academic books in English as well (currently I'm reading Gender Trouble by Judith Butler).
Not actually. Harry Potter was good translated (at least the first two books), so there aren't too much difference. Though, in my opinion, there are always going to have differences between original and translations because words are more than correlation or translation. There are a entire scope of meaning and use that is different from language to language. For exemple: Good morning. You say it when you see someone during the morning. But in English (US and UK, idk those places) you don't say it when you're leaving the place. In this case you usually say bye, see you or see you soon. But in Portuguese you can say good morning if you're leaving the place and it makes totally sense for us.
So that's a very simple example but it makes us think that it's impossible to translate something perfectly. Of course if you read something that was very well translated you won't find too much difference but, in my opinion, this is going to exist. Always. That's why I have the goal to read in English everything I need/want to read that was written in English and save the translations to books that were written in a language I don't speak.
If it's a bad translation, then you'll find a huuuuugee difference, of course.

Hahaha Simon has the best quips in the whole series! So many times he had me laughing out loud on the train, I love him!
Magnus also had my heart though.
Do you watch a lot of anime if you study Japanese?
I guess I haven't listed my favorite series' yet!
My all time favorite is, without a doubt, the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness.
After that, Uglies, Delirium and the Mortal Instruments come in at a tied second I think.
I also love to read comics and have a nicely growing collection of those too :)
Also, I don't do e-books! Physical copies only! I want the dream room lined with bookshelves some day!
Hi guys! My name is Lauren and I just recently turned 23. In May I received my associates degree majoring in Business Management as one day I would love to own a book store that also sells baked goods and coffee/tea.
Some of my favorite books include The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, The Mortal Instruments, Divergent, The Lunar Chronicles, Anna and The French Kiss, Fangirl, Ugly Love, and Me Before You. I have a hard time picking favorites as you can see haha.
Besides reading I love to watch tv shows and movies. I love making Youtube videos. I also bake quite a bit.
I'm looking forward to this book club so much!

Hi everyone! My name is Grace and I'm 19 years old. I've just moved to Melbourne in Australia from a tiny town in South Australia to study a double degree of Psychological Science and Criminology. I currently work at Babies'R'Us! I would love to become a Forensic Psychologist but my heart really lies at becoming a musician.
I've always loved reading and fun fact, Lauren's book tube channel was one of the first channels I ever watched! I think joining this book club will be great motivation for me because as Uni can be busy at the best of times it will be great to have a book to look forward to reading.
I love books, music, health, psych, movies etc, and I am currently reading the third book in The Mortal Instruments series and loving it. I've also been on a book buying ban for three months!
Excited to get to know you all, :)

Lauren, thanks for making the group, I also always wanted to have a coffee/bookshop. What kind of things to you like to bake?
I think making a lemon meringue tart is my favorite, but I don't like eating it!
Grace wrote: " I've also been on a book buying ban for three months!"
Grace, I just put myself on a book buying ban as well! I have to read 3 books I have waiting on my shelf per one new one I want to buy, or I have to admit I'll never read it and give them away.
I never get rid of books so this will be like loosing a limb!
But the pile of unread ones was just getting too high!
Katharina wrote: " Sorry for the worst English that you've probably ever seen."

Hello everyone, my name is Kaitlyn, but you can call me Kait if you wish. I am 19 and I'm still trying to figure out what I want to go to college for. I'm choosing between vet tech, English so I can be a teacher and writer, or music. I've been reading since I was little and recently started writing stories on Wattpad. Me and my bestfriend are also writing a story. I have a YouTube where I talk and fangirl about books and other things as well.
Besides reading and writing I also love music. I've been playing the clarinet since I was 10 and want to learn to play guitar and hopefully improve my singing.
I love watching tv shows like Supernatural, Law and Order, Orange is the New Black, and a bunch of others. My favorite books are Fangirl, the Lunar Chronicles, and The Fault In Our Stars.
I absolutely adore animals and I have six cats, one of them named Thorne after Captain Carswell Thorne^_^ I also have a dog named Baby named after Dean's Impala
Thank you for inviting me to this book club and I look forward to being a part of it and getting to know you all! :)
Hello! My name is Natalia, I'm 22 and I'm from Poland. I have a Bachelor's degree in Polish Studies (journalism and Cultural Communication major). I'm currently in the middle of my Master's degree, also in Polish Studies but this time it's Text Editing major. I've always loved reading and I think my first read book ever was "Winnie the Pooh" that's why it has a special little place in my heart :) I like to read thrillers, mystery, horror, and I'm just starting my adventure with YA books and I'm trying to read a little bit more of fantasy. But honestly - I can read anything if it sounds good ;)
Besides reading I really enjoy listening to the music. Pop-punk-rock-ish bands from 90s and early 2000s are my usually go-to :) I also like to watch tv shows such as Supernatural, Game of Thrones, Pretty Little Liars, American Horror Story and many, many more.
I've heard of this group on YT and thought I will join and see if I like it (I think I will ;)). And I'm sorry if my English is awful, it's not my first language.
Are you a Buffy fan too then Kaitlyn?Have your started watching Stranger Things??
I started it the other day and I'm totally in love.
I've seen a couple episodes of Buffy and liked them so I guess I'd say I'm a fan. And I've never heard of that show. What's it about?
