This is my first A.S. King book has any of you read anything by her before?

I have read and gave it 4 stars. I'm pretty sure others have read some of her books, too.

I finished it by the pool today. I'll jump in the conversation when everyone else starts talking about it. The chapters aren't numbered so I can't remember what happened when. But I did enjoy it.

Yes, I was sucked into the story and it wasn't predictable, to me anyway. I did enjoy it, obviously I don't always finish a book in a day. But as for some of the things that happen I'm just going to wait until someone else talks about it I'm not sure what chapters they were in. :) Glad I chose to join this one.

I haven't gotten far enough to say much, but I do want to say that I love how I feel like the narrator is simply talking to me. I love books that can make me feel that way. I also love the really short chapters! LOL

I'm trying to get further in before I read much more of this one, but so far what I have read, I love!

I love short chapters too. I think that was one of the reasons I got through it so fast. I loved Panic as well.

I just finished part two.

I love the short chapters too!! I really like the characters so far although I am not so sure about (view spoiler)[ how I feel about Charlie. I am torn between being terribly sad for him and hating him for being kind of a jerk. (hide spoiler)]

I think the issue this book touches on are dealt with in a very realistic way.

I agree with you. I'm still unsure of exactly what (view spoiler)[Charlie did. He definitely grew up in some pretty bad circumstances and he must have been only 18 when he died, so I'm not sure he had enough time to learn to fend for himself and be a better person than his parents were.

Jenny Flick is awful! I think she led Charlie astray somehow.

I worry about Vera. She needs to stay away from the alcohol, especially with her paternal family history. (hide spoiler)]

I am enjoying it so far and I love the multiple POV's and the "quick word form..."

Ken Dieta: (view spoiler)[ I don't care for him! Who MAKES his daughter call her mother who never comes around and acts like she has the right to reprimand her daughter over the phone. Her mother is a real piece of work. Her dad means well, I think, but he needs to back off a little. Parents who made mistakes as he and Vera's mother did oftentimes project their own shortcomings onto their children. Vera needs room to breathe. (hide spoiler)]

Vera: (view spoiler)[ I was surprised but happy that she had the gumption to up and leave the kids at the pagoda. Jenny is simply the B word! I was glad that Vera didn't partake in the things the other kids were doing, and I was disappointed that Charlie took her there. (hide spoiler)]

I liked it but I felt it tried to tackle too many issues and it was kind of all over the place.
