Steph | 2 comments Hi everyone,

I hope it's okay posting this here and that it's not in the wrong place. I've read and enjoyed so many posts on here and I thought you guys might be the right people to approach for a survey I am doing for a university dissertation about recognition for literary translators.

In my opinion, literary translators absolutely do not get the recognition they deserve and the responses I have had so far mostly share this view. Translators are frequently omitted from articles/press reviews on fiction in translation, are underpaid and are undervalued despite the numerous difficulties they face when translating. It's not an easy job!

I'd love to know your views on this and get some more responses to the survey if you're interested. You don't have to be a translator- authors, publishers, journalists, students and readers of literature in translation are welcome too! (Especially readers, in fact.) The survey focuses on translators in Europe but responses from outside of Europe are welcome too.

The link to the survey is here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1FP44...

Looking forward to discussing this with you!

Stephanie

amaldae (staticatku) | 1 comments With thank-yous to Google for once again eating the answers on the first try - the rate of success on this count is truly staggering! I hope it eventually came through & only slightly malformed.

An interesting article on the status/role of literary translators: http://www.musicandliterature.org/fea...
