Rick Allen | 1 comments The book series was either from the 70s or 80s. They came in single colours, red, blue, purple, green and were hardback. They each had a particular theme: e.g. "dance around the world" "things to do with family" "exploration" etc. Inside each book would be a double page illustration of a scene e.g. children building a tree house; children playing hide and seek; people down the beach; divers raising a shipwreck; a family in the kitchen making clay pots; people at a swimming pool; men down a coal mine. The illustrations were by different illustrators and each had their own key composed of the general outline of the scene with numbers and writing telling you what the people were doing. I can't for the life of me remember what this book series was called or who published it.

This does sound familiear -- perhaps Childcraft?

I'm moving your search to the Unsolved folder where more people will look for it.

bookel | 4029 comments Childcraft does have different colored hardcovers and different themes. I've only looked at one and don't recall the internal illustrations. You could probably find them on eBay and bookfinder.com.

Do a google image search - sounds like it could be the later editions of Childcraft (the older ones, like from the 40s-50s, were all one color).

HeavyReader | 450 comments I had a set of Childcraft from the early 1970s and the books were covered in a green leatherish material. The different themes and illustrations by different illustrators sounds like the Childcraft books I had, but my books had no general outline of scenes with numbers explaining what people were doing.

Railyn (funky-rat) | 243 comments The 70's Childcraft books (I was always jealous of my friends who had them) were each a different color. So many 70's homes had them that I would be surprised if that wasn't it.

Scott If it's not Childcraft, then maybe Foxfire?
