I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about it.. It also won a goodreads award last year so there is a handful of people that loved it.. I was just not one of them. Good luck! Interested to see what you think

So I'm up to chapter 5, and so far I can't say I'm liking it all that much... The writing is weird, and (view spoiler)[ You never, ever use confusing metaphors! Make it clear what's going on. What does she mean she was shot? At first I believed her, then I read the details and realised she was making it up. But she referred to an accident before! Ugh, it's so frustrating and I've barely started!! (hide spoiler)]

I'm up to chapter 44. I just don't know how I feel about this book (view spoiler)[ Like I'm interested in Cadence's mental illness. Because she tried to kill herself in summer 15, right? They've explained it weirdly, but from what I can gather she's depressed and suicidal. Well, and kind of a bitch too, not that that's relevant. But at the same time, I'm bored. This doesn't seem to be going anywhere. They're all perfect, and they're all messed up. But from what I've read of other reviews, it isn't going to change. I can't see it changing, no one in that stupid family talks about anything. I feel like I should keep reading, but I may just be wasting my time with this one (hide spoiler)]

I mean, I want more, but at least we're getting some! I can't believe they set the house on fire! That's awful. I get that the aunts were being awful and fighting all the time, but I still would never do that to my own mother (hide spoiler)]

I finished the book and it was ok but it is not what I had expected for a goodreads choice award winner

I don't know...I can get it. Fire coul be renewing and they must do something to stop this awfull situation. I understand her grandfather being alone and trying to keep his power but he manipulated his daughters (like the story of the three princeses and the dragon).
It is a modern version of King Lear, right?

I dont know how I worked it out but I have the sensation that they were dead.
I feel the same way about the book but I dont think it should win the goodreads choice award...It is an too strange book for that
The thing I love most was her stories...

Why the title, I dont know well yet...

Congrats on figuring out the big plot twist.. I didn't see it coming at all, probably because I was so confused between what was memory and what wasn't. Like how about when Mirin was apologizing for not responding to all of Cadence's emails? That confused me..

Yeah, I agree. I think that bit was summer 17, and she was imagining things. But I'd have to re read it to make it all make sense

I like it so far but it was slightly confusing to start of with because of all the different people in Cadence's family. I'm still only around chapter 14, I've been to busy to read today unfortunately.

And I've caught on to the fact that they seem to allude to something that's going to happen in the next chapter. I think that's really cool actually. But I'm kinda ticked with the parents and how they're treating each other. And the Grandfather? He has some issues. (hide spoiler)]

I loved the stories she wrote too bri, I felt like they really got into her head and you understood what he was trying to say in a subtle way.

I never really fangirl about certain books but I think I fell in love with this one haha!

I think this is going to be a book I end up really liking by the time I finish it. I really like so few, and this one has kept me guessing for most of the book! I like that about it :)
