❝PHILOSOPHY. ‘‘The void is the end of all things, and the beginning. The one who walks here is all things. Cradle songs of comfort and bones gnawed by teeth.

The Agents of the Outsider don't typically undergo trials in the same manner that Overseers do, and also aren't taken unwillingly to service the Outsider. Instead, they usually follow a specific member that has contacted the Outsider. And considering there are very few, it makes it a lot easier to designate the "sect" someone is. Which is usually symbolized by the color that they wear. Though their uniforms are usually all the same, adorning a gas mask to hide their identity, while also making it very difficult for them to contract any illnesses, as those who are closely associated with the Void, are a bit more prone to getting more ill than the average person, easier, and faster. Considering the Void represents the death, and the life of all things. A cycle.
The Agents of the Outsider may "borrow" certain powers from those they follow. But these powers are usually very limited and a lot less useful than they are to the person they are borrowing them from. And if the person they borrow the powers from dies, then they lose connection to the Void, and become as they were before that connection was maintained. Furthermore, being so closely affiliated with the void also brings horrible nightmares, usually premonitions of the end of all things, the visions the Outsider sees himself on a day to day basis. When joining the Agents of the Outsider, one must pass a test that demonstrates their agility, physical strength, and logical capabilities, and how well they'll be able to cope with the Void's presence, as some people are too emotionally susceptible to accept the gifts they receive from the Void.

The Void is an alternate dimension that "hungers for a representational, godlike entity", the Outsider being its current divine inhabitant. It consists of a series of floating islands in an organic and chaotic state, which contain uncanny representations of 'real world' locales held in suspended animation. A bright light of unknown origin can be seen far below. While the purpose of the Void is not entirely clear, according to ancient scholars, "The Void sometimes has a divine entity, and sometimes does not. Some last for thousands of years. Sometimes the gap between them lasts as long. Each takes on the attributes of the time or process that made it." However, it is unknown what other divinities have existed in the Void and how they were destroyed. These beings can be unmade in many ways, including by fading, abdicating, deicide, being accidentally destroyed, and being reclaimed by the Void. Despite this, it's possible that somewhere people are still worshiping a prior Void divinity. There are various methods of reaching the void, the most prominent of which seeming to be through dreams, in which the Outsider pulls one from their slumber and into the void. Though the marked ones have been known to simply physically manifest within the Void, without being called upon, without prior notice. There is a distinct possibility that this thoroughly pisses the Outsider off.
Curiously, each time a new person is marked by the Outsider, another floating island is added to the Void, of which consists of little moments in time that meant the most to these people selected. And a symbol of their presence within the Void, similar to a signature. This can be a monument, a distinct memory, a painting, a tree, something that brings them joy.
