I finally got my charger! Yay! I'm so excited to have my computer back. lol Just in time for the next book to start!

Anyone have any fun things happening in October?

message 56: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth That's good news! Going to a theme park with my friends for a Halloween celebration! What about you?

Well, we don't celebrate any of the usual October holidays, but it's my birthday on the 28th :D I'll be 18, which means I'll be able to vote in the upcoming president elections (yes, we have preseidential elections coming up in Bulgaria as well. Only we have so many parties and so many candidates... we even joke that Bulgarians are more interested in the USA elections because at least we all know who the candidates are). I just have to figure out exactly what I have to do and what I need to vote, 'cause I'd have to register and my new ID won't be ready yet and idk if I can vote with my current one (we get our first ID cards when we're 14), even though it'll be active until the end of November. I am becoming an adult (according to Bulgarian law). I don't feel very adult-y, though.

Happy early birthday Ria!
Elizabeth- I think it would be so fun to do something like that!

So after I got my charger, my laptop went through a bunch of updates and the touchpad stopped working. After spending hours of time researching how to fix it, it finally resolved itself (kind of- a little bit) and then I got sick.
I hope the rest of the month gets better! I also have a birthday this month, but no exciting plans. Hubby just started working an overnight shift and my work is in full holiday swing (as of the end of September-gross).

Hello! How is everyone? Everyone enjoying fall?

message 60: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Yes!! Without a doubt the next three months are the best time of the year! How are you all?

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

I am enjoying fall. It has been very mild fall so far.

Brianna wrote: "Happy early birthday Ria!"
Thanks! (yeah, why not reply 10 days later... :D)

The only thing I don't like about autumn and winter is that it gets dark quite early. I mean, it's not even 16 o'clock yet and I had to turn my lights on, 'cause it's too dark to read. And I hate mixing natural and artificial light.

On a slightly different note, I just ordered HP and the Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I don't remember, are we reading those? I do want to watch the Fantastic Beasts movie and it will be in the cinema in my town next month, so I'll be reading that soon (perhaps when I finish The Hobbit). Is anyone else planning on reading these and/or watching the movie?

Also, is anyone reading The Chamber of Secrets? 'Cause no one's posted anything and it's mid-October. Just curious.

message 63: by [deleted user] (new)

I plan to watch the movie. I love Eddie Redmayne and it looks funny. Probably not in theater, though. I can't get my husband out to see a movie, unless it is Xmen. I plan to read the book sometime.

Hey everyone!
I have been in such a reading slump it's crazy! I even avoided getting on Goodreads. It's definitely been an interesting month. I do plan on starting Chamber of Secrets in a few days (hoping it will break me out of this reading slump).

message 65: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I'm sure it will do that for you! ;)
Being a first time reader of Harry Potter is difficult, I've found so many spoilers by mistake already.. won't mention any but I'm pretty devastated!

Hey eveyrone!

It's been almost a month since I last logged in... I miss this.. our conversations, your reviews, everything. But I have to work and I have to sleep so...

What are you reading these days?? Anything interesting?? I have fallen behind with my reading. I'm afraid I won't be able to complete my reading challenge! Pity! I am close. I've never read so many books in a single year. Martin's books should count as 10 though... I've missed some planned reads too.

I thought I was the last to start reading the Chamber of Secrets and I was really surprised not to find any comments!!! Is anyone else currently reading it?

message 67: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 550 comments Mod
Elizabeth- Spoilers are the worst! I'm sorry you got spoiled but hopefully you enjoy the journey anyways!

Lena- I totally understand about work and sleep. lol I've read one whole chapter, but I'm trying to read more. This slump is just kicking my butt!

I finally read a book! It basically took a month and I am so excited that this reading slump seems to be coming to an end. I'm going to try to jump back into Harry Potter today and get a good chunk of the second book read (hopefully). We'll see what happens, but I feel like the end is in sight!

message 69: by Elizabeth (new)

Ria (ban1chka) | 118 comments Hey, everyone!
I watched Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them on Sunday and guess who I came across in the cinema - my history teacher and her daughter! Turns out their whole family are HP fans, that is so awesome! I mean, I knew she (my history teacher) was cool, but this was a very pleasant surprise. We talked a bit before and after the movie and we ended up talking about some of Rowling's other works. She lent me her copy of The Cuckoo's Calling, but I haven't started it yet, 'cause I'm a bit behind on the Fellowship of the Ring. Has anyone read it? And has anyone watched the movie? If so, what did you think of them?

Also, have you seen these HP colouring books that have been showing up lately? I wanted to get one, but I already have a colouring book ("for grown ups") and don't really need another one right now. Will definitely buy one after I finish my current one. There are also these new editions of the HP series with pictures. They are so beautiful! I've seen the first two books in the bookstores. Too bad they're so expensive. And I already have the books anyway, even though they're without pictures.

Me and adult coloring books are not friends. I own like 4 or 5 and I've colored one or two pictures in each and have to pick them back up. I was always scared to buy one of the HP ones because I am not a good colorer (I know it's not a real word lol), and want to do the series justice,

Hello everyone! It's been fairly quiet around here but I know it's a busy time of year. I'm currently a book behind in this reread, but since the fourth book is set up for two months, I could very well catch up. I'm currently watching the second movie since i finished the book a bit ago and will be starting the third book later today!

Work has been complete chaos as of late so that's definitely put a damper on my reading. I work retail so yeah... lol lots going on!

What is everyone else up to? Y'all ready for the holidays?

message 76: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 550 comments Mod
That is when it was scheduled to start so if you would like to you certain can! You can really read any of the books at any given point. I fell a bit behind so I'm only working on the 4th book - Goblet of Fire, but hope to start the 5th by the end of February.

Hello!!!!!!!!

How is everyone doing? Are you reading anything interesting? Just finished All the Light We Cannot See and I can't believe how much I liked it!

Also I fell a lot behind with my reads, but I hope I will be able to read a bit more from now on.

I just started reading the Goblet of fire. I think I will finish the book in about 10 days, and then I'll start reading the 5th one.

Well, I just started The Return of the King. I finished ADwD, Part 1 tomorrow and figured I need something non-fantasy so I started a Bulgarian comedy book, whose title roughly translates as "Well, f*ck", but it was super short and hilarious, so I finished it in a matter of hours. I didn't want to go back to ADwD, but wasn't sure what I wanted to read, so I figured I'll just finish LoTR. It's about time anyway. I was thinking of starting HP and the Order of Phoenix (and finally join this group read properly), but I also have to read part 2 from ADwD, so I was thinking of holding off on HP until more people are reading it. So, what are everybody's plans?

message 80: by [deleted user] (new)

When more people start the Order of The Phoenix I will start too. I am so excited to come back to HP. I am reading the First book to Jac. It is really hard giving everyone a different voice.

I'm currently reading (slowly but surely) A Dance with Dragons AND Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire so I'm trying to read lighter/fluffier books in between so I don't burn out. Right now it's Vampire Academy.

I'm hoping to finish Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by the middle of February so I can start the fifth book within a reasonable time frame with the rest of the group.

Yeah, that sounds tough. Lucky kid, though. My mum used to read Little House in the Big Woods and Little House on the Prairieto my sister and me. She never changed her voice, but it was still pretty awesome. We'd fight whose bed she should sit on while reading all the time lol

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

Lmao. Well I am not entirely sure if she is listening. I am hoping. I am just getting tired of reading Buscuit and Peppa books. She asks to read Harry Potter sometimes, which is super cute. It is really slow going though. I read 2 pages at nap time and bed time, because she is 2. It is killing me.

message 84: by [deleted user] (new)

Middle/end of February I will be game. I have Atonement and Ready Player One to read.

message 85: by Ria (new)

Ria (ban1chka) | 118 comments Hahaha this makes me want to go apologise to my mum for making her read to us. We were older, though, 5 and 9 or something close to it, so perhaps it went a bit faster and was less frustrating for her lol Wish you all the luck and patience!

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe I should get the picture book!

message 87: by Ria (new)

Ria (ban1chka) | 118 comments Oh, that's a good idea! I've seen it in the bookstores. It's expensive, but the pictures are great!

message 88: by [deleted user] (new)

I find it really cute when parents read to their children at bedtime. You are lucky that your mom did that for you.

message 89: by Ria (new)

Ria (ban1chka) | 118 comments I know, I'm really grateful for that. Those are one of my most precious childhood memories.

message 90: by [deleted user] (new)

It is very cute! Especially, you both fighting over which bed she was going to read in. :D

message 91: by Ria (new)

Ria (ban1chka) | 118 comments Hahaha, yes! Mum switched beds every night to be fair, but we still argued lol

To be honest Ria I would like to take a break from fantasy too. It's a pity I didn't manage to reread LOTR but it seems 24 hours are not enough for me....(extremely busy school year) I also need to finish a ADwD part 2. I haven't even bought it yet. I guess I'm saving it till the next book comes out which I guess is not going to be very soon.

I've read it before and I enjoyed the entire series. It's not anything special or anything, but it's a good series for in between harder books to kind of cleanse the palette. It's way better than the movie.

message 98: by Ria (new)

Ria (ban1chka) | 118 comments Re: Lena
Whatever I do I seem to always go back to fantasy. I need to read other books as well, but I've started many fantasy series that I just want to get it over with. But it's going to take me a year or more and that's a bit overwhelming. Why do fantasy writers always make such long series? :/ Just knowing that I have 16 series to finish makes me too anxious to read sth else. I keep thinking I'll just start hating the genre one day, but so far

message 99: by Ria (new)

Ria (ban1chka) | 118 comments ...but so far it hasn't happened.

Goodreads seems to have cut out the last part of my sentence lol
