In the book I'm reading right now, Die Buying, the main character likes to swim. And for the art lover in you...how about the Art Lover's Mystery series? :)

I am half-way through Dial C for Chihuahua. So cute so far...for a big dog series...the Downward Dog Series by Tracy Weber is a good choice.

You have a number of great British authors to chose from -
Colin Dexter, Arthur Conan Coyle, Agatha Christie, and Peter King has a gourmet detective series.

Barbara Hockman | 13 comments My hobbies (beside reading) are genealogy, knitting, quilting and trying out new recipes.

message 28: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I really like the Betsy Devonshire series by Monica Ferris. The main character owns a craft supply store, so it deals with knitting, crocheting, quilting, etc. You might like them!

Yes, Laura Childs has a scrapbooking mystery series. I have only read the first one so far, but I enjoyed it and have several more waiting to be read.

message 30: by Kimberley (last edited Jul 16, 2016 11:08AM) (new)

Kimberley Cornwell | 5 comments I knit, crochet, read, eat, have 5 cats, and listen to Old time Radio via Radio Classics on satellite radio!

I would recommend the Books by the Bay mysteries by Ellery Adams for the readers. For those who love food, The Silver Bullet Diner mysteries by Christine Wenger are top notch! Cat book favorites are by Sofie Kelly, Sofie Ryan and of course, the Sneaky Pie Brown by Rita Mae Brown -- the earlier, less preachy books! LOL!

Nancy, have you tried the Puzzle Lady series by Parnell Hall?

message 32: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Other than reading, I like to work jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, travel (especially to France), cruise and play with my cats! I used to do counted cross stitch when I only had one cat, those days are long past!

message 33: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 13 comments Barbara wrote: "My hobbies (beside reading) are genealogy, knitting, quilting and trying out new recipes."

For quilting, my sister has read the Benni Harper mysteries by Earlene Fowler, and really enjoys them. Each title is the name of a quilt pattern. We are both reading the Kelly Flynn knitting mysteries by Maggie Sefton.
There is a 2 book series by Fiona Mountain that are labeled as Genealogical mysteries. On Goodreads they are called Natasha Blake Ancestor Detective. I have the first one, but haven't read it yet.
There are some great recipes in Joanne Flukes Hannah Swensen baking mysteries. I have the cookbook and love it.

message 34: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 13 comments I love scrapbooking. Does anyone know of any scrapbooking mysteries other than Laura Childs? I already have those.

Jackie Juli wrote: "My hobbies/interests: I foster orphan kittens for my local Humane Society. I also love to read (of course), knit, crochet, listen to Old Time Radio and I'm a sucker for old classic movies."

I love that you foster kittens, but how can you give them up? When someone dropped a young cat by our house, she gave birth about a week later to 5 healthy kittens. We kept them all, in addition to the momma cat and our 2 older cats.

I would recommend The Cat Who.... series by Lilian Jackson Braun.

I read Carol Lea Benjamin, Laurie Berenson and Susan Conant and loved them all. Also the Reigning Cats and Dog series a mobile veterinarian set on Long Island with all the location names changed and the distances way too short to meet reality, but enjoyable none the less.
