Mahesh Bhatt (mbhatt66) | 7 comments Microbiology is science. It is a product of collective human consciousness, which creates collective human intelligence, collective human thought process and collective human imaginations. It is like all other thought processes like religious, cultural and scientific thought processes.

Ian Miller | 1422 comments Psychic experiences are interesting because although they are cluttered with deliberate frauds there are some things difficult to explain. If we take "predicting the future" if you accept there is a second temporal dimension, prediction is explicable. Thus if you had a creature on "flatland" and was fenced in by a line, it would be easy to see outside the line if you could access the third dimension - you just look over the line.

I recall once in the early 1980s we used to get videos to entertain the children, and ourselves, on wet weekends, and to fill up a so many for $x (can't remember the numbers) I took one of Nostradamus. At the end there were predictions for the near future as of the date of making the video, so being the scientist, I took notes and waited to see what would happen. The predictions were:
(a) In the 1990s, the weather would become a major point, with focus on storms etc. If we accept we just recognized what global warming meant, that scores a hit.
(b) In the first year of the new millennium, New York would be hit with fire from the sky. Thousands would die. That is a very specific hit, especially with thousands. Not tens of thousands or hundreds.
(c) This would lead to war with the perps in the mid east. OK, war in the mid east, given its history is not that brave a prediction, but it is a hit.
(d) The opposition entity would be defeated following Russian intervention in the second half of the 2110 - 2120 decade. If you accept the caliphate as "opposition entity" - and I can't recall what was said - I just noted "tyrant" - that looks like coming right about now.
(e) That was all that was predicted for this period, so there are no misses, which I regard as significant, and in 1980 you could not adjust this period (unless you were psychic).

Now, as a scientist I have to say, if you carry out a test, you have to accept the results, no matter how much you don't like them.

I admire your open-mindedness Ian, and yes, Nostradamus was often uncannily accurate. That's a good list you posted.

Harry Whitewolf | 1745 comments Ian wrote: "My first question is, what is (the soul) and where is it?"

As someone that believes (in fact, I'd say I 'know' rather than 'believe', but that's purely subjective of course) in soul (and personally, I don't see it so much as us all having individual souls, but rather that we, and animals and trees and rocks etc. are all parts of one soul), I would say that your "first question" of what is it and where is it, is actually the last question one should ask, if they want to find their soul! ;)

Whats and wheres have little to do with spirit, in my opinion. (Science explains the universe we live in. "The spirit world" is something else entirely and is not subject to those same laws of science, in my opinion.) But if you do want to find what and where a soul is, I suggest listening to something like Beethoven or Lennon's 'Imagine'. ;)

John Graham Wilson | 154 comments Let us say an amoeba has consciousness as a phenomenal field. How would we know when he is "asleep"?

message 106: by Mahesh (new)

Mahesh Bhatt (mbhatt66) | 7 comments A living system is living because of life in it. With this reasoning, we can say that the life is energy. The 'Soul' and its existence is not possible without life since only a living system will have a soul. So we can say that the life is 'soul' or energy is 'soul.' Every living system will have the soul. In higher animals like mammals, the soul has multiple dimensions of consciousness, intelligence, reasoning, feelings, emotions, etc. with all their thought processes.

Mahesh Bhatt (mbhatt66) | 7 comments Ian has described well the incidences, but it can be just a coincidence, my explanation to this may be different from you. Luck is the probability theory of life. So, any forecast has the probability of being true and false. The concept of 'soul' and our spiritual 'Self' is different from the concept of forecasting systems. These systems are present in almost every culture and religion across the globe.

My view is the probability of coincidence, while nonzero, is still very small. Wat is the probability of getting the year right for an event when predicting several hundred years into the future? Then there is the problem of getting the event. Anyone like to try for 2018, other than for something known to be scheduled?

I'm game. What do you have in mind?

message 110: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1422 comments Christopher, if you or anyone else can see the future, give us a prediction that is specific and multi-pointed. For example, I predicted Trump would become President a year before the election, but that was not psychic. The election was inevitable, and in a gloomy mood, I saw him as the worst possible outcome. It has to be something that you would not normally think would happen. I mean, with Nostradamus at his time, it would be basically impossible (in my view) for someone to guess what would happen in a city that did not exist involving a machine coming from the sky (because no such machine existed) and killing specifically thousands. That is too much for a random guess. Now for one year out, some things are guessable. No prizes for saying Theresa May will cease to be PM next year, but if you said she would step down on March 21, that would be more impressive. (I am not saying she will, but there are only two options - she stays or goes, and next year is likely, if not before.

So everybody, place your future bets now, and we come back in a year and see who does any good. It should show how difficult it is.

message 111: by Christopher Sharp (new)

Christopher Sharp | 47 comments Politics is a waste of time for predictions. Too much emotion on either side of the bet. I'd be happy to put my skill to the test for a future event in 2018. I've never tried it before. nothing that is a zero-sum scenario either, it's been done before. Needs to be as unpredictable as possible, something in nature is good, no way to hedge that bet.

message 112: by Christopher Sharp (new)

Christopher Sharp | 47 comments OK Ian, you probably didn't even read my first response yet, but I'll give you what I got. You want some sort of future prediction. I ruled out politics and zero-sum scenarios (Superbowl, lottery and the like)

What I do isn't like looking something up in the phonebook. Sometimes I just get impressions, other times I get vivid images. Words will come, numbers, I just learned to listen. I have a 2018, act of nature prediction for you. Didn't even really try, it just came to me when I thought about it.

Spain, on some mountain (no specific geographical location came through like a town or the like)

January 18, 2018

Before the sun rises there

Avalanche

Not sure if there are many people involved if any at all.

Also, in the USA, Lake Erie, drought in the surrounding land.

One more, but this one wasn't very clear. 54" of snow in Rome NY. Didn't get a date on that one.

Hope that was enough to satisfy your curiosity.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb47z...

The predictions are:

THE GREAT ERUPTION OF MOUNT VESUVIUS

ECONOMIC COLLAPSE

WORLD WAR 3

GIANT ASTEROID TO HIT EARTH

ADVANCE HUMAN-ANIMAL COMMUNICATION

HUMANS WILL BEGIN LIVE TO BE OVER 200

Hm... an interesting year lined up then!

– US forces striking North Korea by blowing up a key trade route

– Kim Jong-un being overthrown by his own people

– Failed attempt to impeach Donald Trump

– The sinking of a US warship

– Theresa May will stay in power

– Volcano eruption near Naples

– Massive break in the Antarctic ice shelf

– Mass strikes organised by Jeremy Corbyn

– Terror attack on a UK motorway

– A world flu epidemic linked to biological terrorism

– Prince Harry announces his engagement

– Terrorists launching a chemical attack on London or Berlin

– Collapse of the Euro triggering riots across the EU

– An overall “bad year” for the world economies

Ian Miller | 1422 comments Let's keep this and see what happens. One point about Nostradamus - how was this assigned to 2018? I ask this because having seen the quatrains, specific dates are unusual. The New York date was fixed as the first year of the new millennium, and of course it was in 2001, but that is correct because there was no year 0. Anyway, we wait and see.

message 118: by James, Group Founder (new)

message 119: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1422 comments They are sort of four line (hence quatr) sort of poetry the main criticism of which is they often are understandable best in retrospect. This makes them a little difficult to be sure of, but occasionally you do get reasonably precise predictions. Sometimes they are a bit delphic, which means it is not quite clear exactly what they mean.

In your brain or in your finger? And when you look at a wall, is the wall "on the wall" or in your occipital lobe? So "where" starts to look a bit meaningless. Hooray for Descartes!

D.M. Shiro (d_m_shiro) | 4 comments I believe that the brain is simply another way to utilize the vehicle. The soul (or driver/consciousness) uses the mind to operate the body and make it do as it needs. But I also believe our consciousness becomes more... well, conscious, as our body ages and has experiences. I also believe that our experiences directly affect how our consciousness operates, meaning that our experiences in life shape how we perceive things, which affects how the consciousness can function - or how it can make the body work for its own needs and wants. But I also believe that something deeper than our experiences guides us through them and helps us (intuition, which is how the soul speaks to and influences the body to do what it needs). If any of that makes sense.

In short
Consciousness stems from within

Thanks Dan, I take your point in a way and simply posted Lipton's works as food for thought among all the other scientists I and others have already mentioned in this consciousness thread (including renowned neurologists).

On another level tho, like many things in science, this debate doesn't fit into neat academic categories - in my opinion, at least - especially given numerous other interrelated scientific fields criss-cross into the mammoth subject of "what the hell is consciousness?".

For example, Lipton's work and I believe this discussion, also ties into with the following epigenetics thread (especially if you listen to Lipton's cellular biology theories on how the mind or consciousness trumps genetics):

Here's another thing the mind can do.
My wife, Dee Dee has a special perspective being right next to me and watching one dream after another of mine come true. One day it all solidified in her mind and she realized something intriguing: I got, everything I wanted when I wanted it.
After being married to me for thirty years my sweat heart walked up to me and asked me the question she had been thinking about. “How come you get everything you want when you want it?”
So being wise, 'sometimes', I did not answer her question. I did not tell her I used the secrets in the book

Think and Grow Rich.

Instead, I asked her another question in return. “I asked her what do you want sweetheart?”
She said, “I don’t know.” She asked, “How can I know what I want?” I said, “Pretend I have a real magic wand crackling with real magical energy and I can just wave it and make any dream or goal you want come true.” She said, “OK”. I said, “Write down several things you really want on a piece of paper.”
She returned a few minutes later with a list of several things. I read it and said, “Now put numbers beside each item according to their importance to you.” She left and came back with them listed in the order of importance to her. I read the most important one and said; now list every exact detail you want for this most important item.
A few minutes later she came back with a detailed list of everything she wanted for this one thing. I read it and said ok.

Her description of what she wanted was this.

I want a job a few blocks from our home; we lived in a residential area, so fairly unlikely. Next, she wrote that she wanted more money than she had ever made before, challenging. Next, she wrote that she wanted a job in bookkeeping which she had one class in High School and no work experience; that is impossible. She wanted to have her own private office which she had never had that, maybe, but not the norm. She wanted to be in an office with no other women. Usually, everywhere she worked was full of women and just a few men.

I did not contact anyone in any way about these things she wanted. At the end of a week, she got a call from an old employer, Jeff. Jeff said his new boss, Bob, needed key man insurance. My wife was an insurance agent so Jeff wanted her to write up the application for the policy of his boss. We went to Bob’s, new office and my wife finished writing up his application.
We were standing outside of his new office a few blocks from our home. Bob said to Jeff, “Our bookkeeper has decided not to come with us to this new location. Wish I knew where we could find someone to take her place.” I smiled and looked into my wife’s eyes and she looked back into my eyes.
I could personally feel the real magic (E.S.P.) starting to resonate like it always does when I get what I want.
I said, “My wife might be interested in this position.” Her ex-boss, Jeff immediately said to Bob, “She is fantastic and can handle this bookkeeping with ease!” My wife added, “It is only a couple of blocks from my home so it would be perfect for traveling.”
She asked, “Where would I work?” He showed her the private office which would be the first private office she ever had. My wife asked, “What kind of staff would I be working with?” He said, “We are all men here, you would be the only woman.”
My wife asked, “What kind of salary would you be starting the person at?” It was the highest salary she would have ever had. He said, “Can you start after giving notice where you are currently working?” My wife looked at me with sparkling eyes, and then said, “Yes that will be fine.”
Now, remember what I told you. I contacted no one in any way. I did not write or talk to anyone about her grand detailed dream. How did I do it? I promise you, I used the sixth sense also known as Extra Sensory Perception (E.S.P.).
Go to chapter 14 How to get ten million dollars if you want to immediately see how to develop your sixth sense. This will let you get what you want by using the sixth sense and explains in detail how the sixth sense works.
For many years I have been blessed with the fantastic real magic gift of personal power to get what I want when I want it on my terms. I have shied away from sharing this with others because I just felt from past experience that it would be a waste of my time to share this wonderful reality.
In chapter four I will share some of these past experiences and it will become clearer why I had some hesitancy to share these facts. See, Chapter Four: How to get a “free” $420,000 education using a magic trick.
We now live in very magical times. People are seeing wonders happening all around them. So perhaps now is the time to share “the truth once” with you.

By the way, many years later, my wife said she wanted to have her own business in her home. This time because of many magical experiences of getting what she wanted over and over again; she said to me, “Work your voodoo!” She has been working in her own business now for many years.
We are now both officially retired and are taking it easy enjoying our 24 grandchildren.
So what do you do when you get what you want, when you want it, on your terms? As my third mentor, Ken who retired when he was a young man said, “I help others get their dreams.”
Ergo this book, I hope this book inspires you to take a few small actions so you too can have your grandest dreams with absolute dependability. And so, I am now sharing how I got to this place of living the good life of fantastic health, wealth and happiness.
Not to brag, but just to help you understand where this book can take you; here are a few results I have personally experienced because of the sixth sense.
I was a local and regional celebrity and I was asked to become a national celebrity.
Just to put things in perspective and give you an idea of the level we were living at. Our phone bill in today’s money was about $5,000.00 per month.
I was making as much in one month as many today make in a year.
The last time I checked with my insurance agent to do one show it would cost me three thousand dollars for the million dollar insurance binder that is required for my one performance.
As my mentor, Duke said, “I am going to teach you how to live the good life.”
He didn’t mention that it would be a very expensive life.
And now I will take you step by step revealing how you can have what you want, when you want it, on your terms.

Here’s something for you think about. The first law of Real Magic is:
People would rather believe a lie told to them a thousand times, then the truth told to them once. This comes from the book Real Magic.
My conspiracy theory: The lie told to you thousands and thousands of times is: “There is no such thing as magic”. Who has perpetuated this lie for thousands of years: who else, the real magicians, the ones who use real magic every day in their own lives to get everything they want, when they want it, on their
terms. All the aforementioned facts are completely accurate, I share them to stimulate your thinking and possibly widen your view of reality. Remember, every word of the above is completely true, I will stake my life on those facts. This is my kind of group. Hope I can be useful. William Young, Mandrini the magician.

When we learn to recognize when we are “thinking” we can shut it down and act/ just be instead. If Zen Buddhists can shut off their “minds” after years of training, this makes me believe it is a receiver.

message 146: by Lyn (new)

Lyn Dahlstrom A "receiver" from where?

Obviously, the brain as simply matter isn't the origin of much; it has something to do with the electrochemical energy, which is ultimately stimulated by blood circulating oxygen, and the breath allowing the oxygen to enter the bloodstream and the heart/vessels to pump it around.

So the question "is the brain the origin of consciousness or receiver" isn't as interesting to me as, "What is the origin of consciousness?" To me it has something to do with the breath, or where the energy of the breath comes from.

I don't think our brains are going to "solve" this, as I experience mental intelligence to be a subset of the human experience of life. In other words, whatever you want to call the creative force of the universe, it is larger than all that our brains are.

William Lewis | 4 comments Here is an example of my true experience of the brain as a receiver:

May your grandest dreams appear!
Chapter 14
How you can get ten million dollars

Of Magic Doors: There is this: You do not see them even as you are passing through….

Here is one final sharing to help you understand magic a little better. I had one young man, Paul who I met in the green room at television performance where I saved the producer’s job; he told me he had a dream and would like my help to bring it into reality. Paul told me what his dream was and I said I would be glad to help him.
I spent a few months working with Paul each Friday for about an hour each week. We were writing and drawing many pictures of his dream using the principles in the book Think and Grow Rich.
After a few months, Paul said, He needed (in today’s money) ten million dollars by the end of the month. I told him I would have it for his dream. By the way, the only millionaire that I personally knew was my benefactor.
That month I was contracted to do a series of magic shows 500 miles away from my hometown. I knew no one in this town except the one person who booked my magical performances.
My agent booked this show about six months earlier. This means that the sixth sense had to begin six months earlier arraigning this miracle like happening.
At the end of one of my magic shows I had a "strange desire" to go strolling in the Giant Regional Mall where I was performing. By the way I never usually go strolling around in the giant malls I performed in regularly because the malls all have the same stores, so what’s to see?
Why this strange desire to stroll all of a sudden I wondered. I followed my inclination my hunch and strolled away. As I rounded the corner about 75 feet from the stage my eyes caught a glimpse of a display of “real” one hundred thousand dollar bills on a display board behind a secure area with a security guard standing beside this real money.
This for me was a Godsend because in the book Think and Grow Rich it said you have to see the money you want in your hands. How was I going to be able to see Millions of dollars in my hands?
I asked the guard’s permission to stay behind the security ropes but get as close as I could to the bills. So I bent far over the security ropes and stuck out my head as far as I could to get as close as possible to the bills without touching them. I was still about two feet away but could see them very well because they were lit up with spot lights.
I spent a long time trying to memorize the images of the bill’s both sides. I would examine the bills with my eyes and then look away trying to see the real bills in my mind’s eye and it just wouldn’t happen. So close but so far, from a have to have, according to the book think and grow rich.
I tried again and again and it just wasn’t working. I just kept on trying because it “had to work”. I had to make it work. I kept on in spite of my agonizing frustration.

Can you see his glasses? Keep looking…

Finally, as I moved my head even closer to the real one hundred thousand dollar bills; I noticed that Woodrow Wilson the president on the hundred thousand dollar bill I was trying to visualize was wearing glasses that I had not seen.
The glasses were old fashion very thin metal frames with no temples that is why I didn’t see them. His glasses were held in place by nose pads to hold them on the bridge of his nose.
These glasses totally intrigued me because I had never seen anything like them. I looked away up into the air and I could see those glasses. As I kept on visualizing I then could see Woodrow Wilson’s eyes and then his whole face. Then suddenly I could see the whole face side of the one hundred thousand dollar bill floating in midair in my mind’s eye. I was elated! I then looked at the back and I found I could visualize the entire back of the S100,000.00 dollar bill.
I went back to the hotel. Now an interesting note, I had a habit as I traveled across the country of staying in famous name hotels only. For some strange reason (Real Magic) for the first time ever I had decided to book six months earlier a room in a small private hotel.
Once again we see that the sixth sense has the power to work through time and space to make impossible dreams come into reality. I was obviously six months ago guided without my knowledge to book this particular hotel.
This fact is important because as I got out of my car in the hotel parking lot, I decided to try seeing many of these hundred thousand dollar bills in my hands again. As I did this imagining: I began to feel a very gentle but persistent pulling of my body to the left.
I had felt the same kind of pulling at the mall that led me to the hundred thousand dollar real bills. So I followed the very gentle pull and I found myself walking toward the back door of a building next to the hotel parking lot. I walked up to the back door of the company. There was a sign on the door that said come on in, so I opened the door.
I faced a split level with two sets of steps; one up and one down. I felt my body being pulled very gently to the left toward the down steps. So I began descending; I had no idea why I was there or what exactly I was doing. I just followed the gentle invisible pulling E.S.P. sensation I was feeling.
When I reached the bottom of the steps a stranger walked up and asked if he could help me. I explained I had just come from doing a magic show at a nearby giant regional mall. All the time while I was talking I kept walking very slowly forward. I was following the very gentle pull that directed me to walk forward.
After just a few steps, I felt my head being pulled very gently to the right. I turned my head to the right and saw a room with a table with overhead spotlighting shining on a model of something. I asked the gentleman is that a model of a house to our right? He said yes it was the model a friend of his had built of his planned new home. I mentioned casually that I have a friend who was getting ready to build a model of a project we had been working on for the past months.
I described the project and he became very excited! He said he had a multimillionaire friend who had built a model of land he had bought between two lakes and he is looking for the exact things you guys have planned. He said let’s call him.
My whole body immediately began vibrating with excitement; I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest. I said wait just one minute. I sat down, caught my breath, got my composure and said go ahead and call him. Burton did not answer his phone, so this stranger left a message on Burton’sanswering machine and told Burton he should give me a call at the hotel.
The next day Burton called me and we sat up a meeting. We sat down at a small round table in the hotel lobby. I had never taken the plans for this project out of my home but for “some reason” I just happened to bring them with me this time on this trip.
So I presented the written ideas and drawings we had hand drawn and hand written to Burton. He said these are the exact ideas I have been looking for. I said we need one million dollars (equivalent to ten million in today’s money) and he said you’ve got it and as much more as you need. This is absolutely exactly what I must have for my land.
Burton invited me to his home and he showed me the giant model ad least 4 by 6 feet of the land that filled up a big table in a large room in his beautiful home and we began to talk about where each of the ideas I had presented would be on his land.
The aforementioned facts are an extremely accurate description of just one of the many times of how the sixth sense has worked in my life. I followed the exact instructions in the book Think and Grow Rich to make this happen. To be even more exact, I followed the exact instructions in the chapter on autosuggestion.
Everything in the book Think and Grow Rich is absolutely true and you can completely rely on it to make all your grandest dreams come true and no one can stop you from getting your heart’s desire.
By the way, I have no financial connection with any of the books I recommend. I recommend them because they have worked for me in my life, usually over and over with completely dependable magical results.
At the beginning I told you about my wife wanting impossible dreams and how I can get them just by using E.S.P. Well, in the book Think and Grow Rich it said “anything” you can conceive and believe (hold it in your mind) you can achieve.
So since my dreams were coming true, I decided why not use the principles in think and grow rich to develop my sixth sense so I could just think alone and make my and others grandest dreams come true.
By the way, one of the final chapters in Think and Grow Rich is on the development of the sixth sense. The book says each time you read the chapter entitled the sixth sense you will find your E.S.P. powers being enhance. I have read that chapter over and over and over again.
So I did enhance my own extra sensory power by using those principles and that is why I have the power to just think and make things happen. I used the chapter on autosuggestion and the l chapter together to give me this ability to use E.S.P. alone to change the world around me.
The down side is I have to be very careful what I hold in my mind because things happen very quickly around me. Also I have lost all self-pity.
The upside is I get what I want when I want it on. I love life and it is time for me to make this truth told to you once available to the world. We both know you would rather believe a lie told to you a thousand times, then the truth told to you once (From the book “Real Magic”.)
Once in your life, right now, you have been told the absolute truth. What will you do? Will you pick up these books full of real magical power and make all your grandest dreams come true?
Well, at least, the responsibility for this knowledge is no longer on my head. It now belongs to you. May I suggest: use these books. Get your dreams. Live the “Good Life”!
Andrew Carnegie gave away 350 million dollars before he passed on. A large portion of his money went to the building of 1,698 libraries. Why give all this money to build libraries full of books? Why build libraries: simply because

Real Magic is “Reading” and America has taught all Americans to be real magicians who by reading can be, do and have anything our hearts desire. Be, do and have are the three corners of the Scientology triangle of Happiness.

Lyn Dahlstrom The experience of simply being alive is infinitely deeper, richer, and more beautiful than things like money. I prefer it when I can flow with life (I kayak, and floating down a river for awhile always helps me flow inside with life itself, leaving me mellow and blissful). Enjoying this life in a simple way to me is the "grandest dream" of all, and I don't need any concepts or schemes to do that. I don't believe that happiness depends on what you have or don't have (assuming you have the basics, water, air, food).

Scientology does not attract me. I enjoyed reading about it in the past for its color, drama, and pageantry (and weirdness; it is quite strange!), but it only mildly amused me. If you are happy with it, William, that is nice for you.

I don't think those two questions are mutually exclusive. Plenty of overlap there and keep in mind the original question is a reaction to most neuroscientists who say the brain is the origin of consciousness. But obviously if someone can prove in time that our consciousness does not originate in the brain, and therefore the brain is a receiver or reflector of our "non-local consciousness", then it naturally leads into your second question "What is the origin of consciousness?"

That's the way I see it, but maybe I'm missing something.

Lyn Dahlstrom Yes, we might be just into wordplay to some extent. The brain seems to be the tool of consciousness for an individual human, but only when it is connected to a live human being (After death, the brain is still there, but consciousness is not - so the question becomes about life and consciousness itself).

I personally kind of see the brain as a subset of consciousness, in that the brain always filters and narrows perceptions (necessarily), and electromagnetic grooves can form that cause some thinking to be habitual instead of more open to new stimuli.
