HM | 3 comments Hello :)

I hope you can help me. I dont have much detailed information though.

The book Im looking for is a childrens book, I think it was written befor the 1990ies, could be from around 1950-1990, Im really not sure.

In the book there are lots of strange fictional animals with beautiful hand-drawn-style, coloured illustrations and description of there life, habits and so on. But its not your average dragon-fairy-stuff but completly made up animals (I think I remember something resembling a spoon, but im not entirely sure). Im from Germany, but I think the book was in English.
And it might be possible, that the title of the book contained a name of someone and something with animals. So "-Insert name here-'s (encyclopedia of weird) animals" something like that. (didnt say the encyclopedia bit though. But maybe something similar to that.. And maybe Im being completely missleading here..
And it is possible, that for you english speaking people it is something really obvious, something you at first sight wouldnt consider because its so obvious, because it is very common to know that book in English-speaking countries, I can only say that it is not common in Germany.

thank you so much for your help!

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Do you remember if each animal had their own page in the book?
Can you describe any other animals/creature in the book?

Part of a series?
Were there any humans in the book?
Did you read the book in the 90s or later than that?

It sounds like a cool book. Hope this gets solved.

HM | 3 comments hey! thank you for your input. I dont think the book was part of a series. I think there werent any humans in the book and there was one type of animal (with several illustrations) on each double-page. and i read it in the late 90ies, but it felt "older" (for a kid)
and i cant describe any animals :(

N (kaxxie) | 104 comments The mention of an animal like a spoon makes me think of Lobel's The Ice-Cream Cone Coot and Other Rare Birds, if it might be only birds? If not, perhaps another bestiary? There's a list here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2... that I've found helpful.
