Hi Carlos! I grew up watching a lot of musicals, so I have a soft spot for them. Your theater company sounds really cool, as does your translating job--I really admire people who can speak more than one language.
Welcome to the group!
Welcome to the group!

I like musicals too, and I'm a fan of Woolf. What are some of your favorite musicals? I like some of the older ones, but I think my favorite is Next to Normal - just brilliant!

My all time favorites are Sweeney Todd and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, but lately I've been listening non-stop to Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. It's awesome!
See you guys around! :D
Welcome Carlos! I admire translators. What kind of translating do you do. I can imagine translating technical literature, but I think doing fiction or poetry would be very difficult.
Way back when I was taking German in high school, we learned The Lorelei (Die Lore-Ley) and attempted English translations. I have read a number of the latter, but none approach the poetry of the original German. I also learned an old Italian proverb—Traduttore traditore!

I'm a bisexual daughter of divorced lesbians and since you said you like to read books about the LGBT community, you should check out Families like Mine by Abigail Garner.
Hope you have a great day!

Way back whe..."
Thank you, Bill!
This will be the first novel I translate to be published. Until now, I have specialised in the translation of legal and technical documents. As you say, translating poetry is a very special skill. I think the only way to be a good translator of poetry is to be a good poet. Even attempting it requires a great deal of sensitivity.
Cheers!

Chicago is greeeeeeat! So much fun. And the film is pretty good, which is always nice.
I will definitely check out Families Like Mine, sounds like a very interesting read. Thank you!
I've checked the shelf and it is amazing the amount of books that are available there; it'll keep me busy for a very long time to read just a small fraction of what you guys have added there, so thanks for that!
I like to read very different books, but I specially like horror and fantasy. For instance, I loved the Welcome to Night Vale novel. Besides being a fan of the podcast I found it very well written and quite moving. Right now I am reading To the Lighthouse, by Virginia Woolf, and next I plan to re-read Anna Karenina.
I guess I'll tell you a bit more about me. I love theatre, specially musicals — cause sometimes clichés have to be true. I perform with an amateur company and we do individual songs from our favorite shows, interwoven by an original story. it's super fun to do.
I also am a translator and currently am working on translating into Spanish a Sci-fi novel in which the main characters are gay, which I find very cool.
So that's basically it, I'm very happy to be a part of this and I'll see you around!!
Cheers!
