I read the book last winter. I read the book during a snow storm when I was forced to stay home a few days. I thought the book was good. A little long. I could see it as a movie. My step daughter actually read the book before me and recommended it for me. My step daughter is a die hard Twlight fan she did not really like The Host. I liked it. But if your looking for a book like Twlight this is not it.

I usually stay FAR away from Sci-fi books. When the Host came out...I didn't have the desire to read it. A lot of people are saying that it is good though...Its supposed to have a good audiobook...

I've decided to read it, since it sounds like it has intriguing elements. I like it when a story is not necessarily black or white but gray, esp. the villains. They sound complex.
I just read this this month and I'd say it was good, but not great. Definitely too long, because Meyer's tends to describe and explain way too much. It was a bit confusing in the beginning until I completely understood what was going on. It was worth reading, but it's not one of my favorites and I'm actually planning to give away my hardcover copy because I know I'll never read it again. I do like how Meyers writes. She's very smooth and it makes for rather fast reading even though it's so long. It did keep my attention and I wanted to know how it all ended, but it wasn't that spectacular. I'm not sure anything I just wrote helps anyone decide!
I just finished with this book. It's as different as possible from the Twilight series. But it still has Meyer's style and elements in it. For instance, a lot of poignant scenes later being set right in a Happily-ever-after manner. It's written well though, but it is a slow start, will take some time before you get the drive to sit through the book.
It looks like it is shaping up to be a trilogy. Then again, who knows...the Twilight series was supposed to only be a Trilogy, but Meyer changed her mind it ended up having 4 books instead of 3....
Has anyone tried listening to it on audiobook? My hubby did and he said that the audiobook to it was great! :)
The Host
The Seeker

Worth reading but long as other posts mentioned...unique though...you'll think about it after all is said and done.
I read The Host last year and I thought it was good. It did start off slow it took me about 7 chapters to really get into it.
I am currently waiting for the person who has rented it out of the library to bring it back cause its like a week overdue!!!!

I felt like the writing was much better than the Twilight series. Meyer has definitely grown as a writer. The beginning is very drawn out and at one point I put it down thinking I couldn't finish it. Bored, a couple weeks later I picked it up and got past the stalling out point then couldn't put it down.
I loved it more than the Twilight series. I will admit that the first 2 chapters are little hard to get through, because you don't understand everything that's going on. However, once you finish it and then read it again you'll notice that some secrets are revealed in the beginning. I would very much recommend this book.
Really enjoyed it. I wasn't at first going to read it due to my lack of fondness for the twilight series (Bella's constant whingeing!) - but I'm glad I did; it was a refreshing change, and Meyers writing style has definitly improved. Thumbs up from me!
I absolutely loved "The Host"! I do agree that it took me a moment to get into the swing of things. This is not my norm of genres, but then I have the utmost confidence in Stephenie Meyer. Though it started slow due to her need to build backgrounds on characters and flesh them out, you could still feel her style. I just trusted in the fact that what Meyer's had given me before was so intense, that I was sure she would do it again! By the time Melanie and Wanda are on the road I was fully hooked. Meyer's even had me feeling like we (humans) were the bad guys. That it would probably be for the best to hand over or bodies to the Souls. They'd take better care of our planet and our bodies....... not that I could turn myself in, but idealistically it seems like the only right thing to do. There are some excellent characters you're missing out on if you don't read this book. Ian, Uncle Jeb, Jamie, Petals, and Burns Living Flowers.
I got up to the 100page mark, and put the book down. I just couldn't bring myself to finish it.Although, I have been told that where I had stopped reading is the part where it starts to really pick up.
I will probably read it again, out of interest. But I have a whole books list that I still need to get through. Lol.
The Host is one of my favorite books ever, definitely better than Twilight.Characters were awesome, specially Ian, READ IT NOW if you're a fan of Love Triangles like me.
I didn't really like the ending though, I think she could have done so much better, I would've been happier if she kept only one of them.

Does the reader sound like Kathleen Turner, the actress? I can't listen to it because she sounds so much like a man, it's distracting!!
I haven't read The Host but am intrigued now after reading these comments. I'd like to add it to Meyer's infloox page, at least if anyone knows some of her influences for it?? On a side note, anyone seen that terrible move, The Host? definitely not by Meyer - I think it was Korean, but anyway, quite disastrous :P
I'd guess that influence-wise, Invasion of the Body Snatchers would have to be one. My hubby read The Host, and kept telling me how much it reminded him of that.I enjoyed it too, but I agree that it took time to get into it.
I just finished this book the other day. I absolutely loved it! I especially liked the names some of the souls had: Burns Living Flowers, Petals Over the Moon, Fords Deep Waters. I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. At first, I was only reading it for a book challenge that required a book about aliens. But I am super glad I read it.
The Host is waaayy better than Twilight.I finished reading the Twilight series first, but I'm not really into it like my friends (who are crazy about Edward Cullen).
So I tried reading The Host, and I've got to say that this book needs to get more attention than Twilight.
The chemistry between all the characters are so much better, and I love all the characters in this book! (especially Ian) :)
I'm just so happy that Stephenie is creating a sequel for this. That's like a dream come true for me! C:
recommended for Stephenie Meyer's fans out there.
I loved the Twilight series but have to say The Host is so much better,I sailed through it in a couple of days. I agree that humans should just hand themselves in now. The audio book's voice did take me a bit to get used to but in the end I was engrossed and didn't notice.
This book is so different from Twilight that I don't think they are comparable. I loved reading The Host. The story was so unique, imaginative, and heartwrenching. If it wasn't for dear Edward I might have liked it better than Twilight! The first 50 pages or so were a little slow, but it was so worth hanging in there. Definitely one of my fav's!
I really enjoyed this book and just heard she was going to make a sequel, does anyone know anything about that? Like when it is going to come out?

If you don't like Science Fiction. Then you need to read The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. If that doesn't get you then try H.P. Lovecraft. The Color From Space. ;)♥
The Host is one of my favorite books. I have a hard time reading through any Twilight books after the first time (the middle two are so depressing!) but The Host I've read several times. I didn't know she was doing a sequel - I was looking forward to the movie! :D
It's a fantastic book! I loved it....though I found Twilight Saga to be better. Really great concept, with awesome characters.
I've read the book, haven't seen the movie because I don't want to ruin what I imagined! The book was really good, it had the love-triangle thing going on but with a different take on it. Sometimes you didn't know who's 'side' you were on, very strong feelings for the two main characters. Excellent way for Meyer to step away from Twilight.

Was it better than the Twilight Series?
Would you recommend it?
