Ben-Harren's Castle by Louise Lawrence."Two teenagers are taken from different worlds to Ben Harren's Castle, which travels within the boundaries of Ben-Harren's galactic territory. Kysha is from a perfect world, Erinos, while Christopher is from a planet struggling with free will. The teenagers' task is to judge their hosts.
Ahhhh, that's it! Though it appears I'm familiar with it in its US title, "Keeper of the Universe." I knew it was some really vague title. Thanks so much! Ha, looking at the description, I suspect it wouldn't be the best re-read, but it's great to know!
Science Fiction, YA or maybe Children's, read in the 1990s
A boy (I believe from Earth) meets a girl whose whole planet is controlled by some sort of larger government? by some sort of mind control? force field? to be completely peaceful and "good." She is very smug about being so perfect. But when they take her off planet, it turns out that she's angry and mean because the control was all artificial, and she realizes that it was all a lie.
I believe, though I could be wrong, that a theme was that all the planets emit sounds (Music of the Spheres-style) and that while the boy's planet (Earth?) is chaotic and has discords, hers is worse because it's all the same and controlled.
I believe there is also an older man who picks up the boy and then the girl, and he is fighting this other government? or whatever and the girl is proof of how it doesn't work.
