I've noticed that too! Also ones where the wouldn't be an 'E' but the title starts with 'The' so I kind of forget that there is an 'E' in it.

I listen to his books in my car too. They are really fascinating.

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) I have 539 books in my TBR so I have several choices for a strict No E prompt. If I want to be super strict and not count any books with an E in the Series Title either, that narrows it down. Then there are books with numerals as titles. If I spell most of them out, there are E's in 2/3 of those, so count those, or not? If I am being super strict, then no. Even being super strict I was still able to find a couple that fit the (possible) challenge just on the first page of my TBR so I am sure there are more further along on my list.

People who have a much smaller TBR will probably have a harder time with this one. A trip to the library or bookstore might be in store for a lot of people if this prompt is chosen

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Francesca wrote: "I just had a look and out of the 28 books I read last year, only 3 didn't have an E in the title. I'm really surprised! That should definitely be an interesting prompt if it gets chosen!"

I agree Francesca. I was looking through books i've read and the books on my shelves and not too many have no E's. Finding a book for this one would be a challenge itself.

J Austill | 1116 comments It doesn't seem nearly that challenging to me. I have 3 books read this year without Es and 3 of the 16 books on my TBR lack Es as well. It's certainly not the majority of books, but it doesn't seem particularly rare.

The trick is: shorter titles.

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Very true J. I believe I have a few TBR with only 1 or two words. Of course, I have about 30 pages on my TBR to look through, lol.

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) Is the poll over yet??? I can't wait to see the results!!!!

***Yes, I do realize it is a few days away yet. I'm just a bit anxious. :-)

Francesca | 780 comments Oh, @Amy, I'm right there with you! I get so impatient once the polls are up!

message 59: by °~Amy~° (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) Hm, I was just looking up links for the books that have already won in previous polls and I noticed that we already have a choice for Books based on Myths and another for Books based on Classics. Between the two, doesn't that thoroughly cover one of the options on this week's poll, Book based on a Fairytale? If it were a slight overlap I wouldn't mind but that is almost exactly the same thing, just more specific.

message 60: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I know, that's why I didn't suggest it in last poll , but I really love fairytales and thought that a myth is definitely not the same. Based on a classic could be interpreted like that, but is just an interpretation... so at the end I just decided to suggest it anyway :-P

While not all fairytales are classics, I think you would be very hard pressed to find a retelling that isn't based on a classic fairytale (Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, etc). Don't get me wrong, I love a good fairytale retelling as well, I just don't see why we need two categories that are essentially the same thing. Unless the addendum was added that the classic CAN'T be a fairytale which is what I would do for myself if both were chosen.

message 62: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) When I proposed based on a classic, I was thinking of people that re-imagine classic works like Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, etc. In fact, I heard that Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler is a re-interpretation of The Taming of the Shrew.

For myths and fairytales (related, but two different things), the only problem I can see is if you object to YA.

'A book based on a fairytale' isn't faring well in the poll so unless there is a big shift in the voting, I don't think we need to worry about the overlap ;)

Yes, Kirsten I understand that more books fall under that category too but technically a classic fairytale does too. There is a thread here for people to post links to the topics we have already chosen. If you pop over there you can see the lists that I recommended. I don't know how many the mods will use but they seemed like good lists to me anyway. :-)

Good to know Laura. And sorry that I am always panicking about things that don't matter! :-)

No worries, I appreciate anything that members point out. I try to look at the suggestions but I think some of it should be left up to the voting and it looks like this one was viewed the way that you're looking at it.

Oh, that's sad :( .... well, I guess I'll just have to interpret the classic :D
