Hello! Thank you for your patience as we continue to make improvements and prepare to bring the new book page experience to all our members. Share your feedback or visit this help page for information about the new book page.
Maybe enough people gave them negative feedback that they decided to change it?
I hope so... I dug deep, all over the place, to find where to leave negative feedback and bug reports...
One page I found was only showing 1-1 of 4 discussions, on that stupid discussion link all the way at the bottom of the book page...

I like Iain's idea best though. Let us toggle between them.

^^Same^^

I am extremely happy they toggled back to the old page this week.

After being absent for far too I was thinking to do some Buddy Reads again. I'll take a look at the upcoming reads and see if there's something interesting in the next couple of days :) For now I'm just scrolling and wanted to say hi, I've missed you!
Ah, and congratulations, I see at least two "promotions"! ;)

Ye... I turned the BR Request Spreadsheet into a dynamic BR Tracker as well:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
There's a slim few options for standalones and early books in series you could BR...
BUT... I've also been lurking... waiting for you to show back up >:D
BECAUSE... check this out: What If? 2: Additional Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions... A SEQUEL!!!... came out last month, also has audio... we totally need to Buddy Read it...

Oh wow, thanks for the tip, that Spreadsheet looks amazing!
And hell yes, count me in! :)
haha if you've been lurking since it came out last month, you definitely knew more about my plans than me!
I guess I'll settle for a physical copy, tho... I know the audiobooks are done incredible well, but I need the cool comics! :) So, you wouldn't mind waiting another week or two? Plus, you need to be patient with me, I'm miles away from inhaling books Iain-style ;)

I'm mighty happy with how the new Group BR Tracker turned out, for a stroke of inspiration, and about 30 minutes of work...
And, I actually stumbled on to the existence of a sequel sometime over the summer, and thought about messaging you on Discord... help off tho, when I saw how long it had been since your last post anywhere... I actually had to double check if it was out yet or not, just now... I was saving it for when the mood struck or you showed up, whichever came first...
My reading speed varies... I don't get to do nearly as much work reading as I used to, but I make up for it with bursts of lots of home reading, and slowly cranking my listening speed back up from 2x speed to 2.5-3x speed, depending on the book... and I have plenty of other stuff going on, reading-wise, so I can try and do it in mini bursts, maybe only doing one question at a time... the book probably has 1-2 dozen questions, if it's anything like the first book... and based on the cover, one of them is a dinosaur attacking an airplane :D
I'll be doing audio... I'll put the request in for October 28th, and mention it in the BR invite thread in case anyone else decides to buy/join...
Thanks ♥️

And of course I wouldn't have minded a discord message. Not sure if I had jumped the train immediately tho... Shame on me, but Siobhan actually messaged me, asking me to do a Hobb Buddy Read and I still haven't answered. I wanted, but then I was unsure if I want to read it right now, as Hobb's books can be quite... heavy. And then I forgot, I hope she'll forgive me ':D
But on the other hand, I guess a dinosaur attacking an airplane would have convinced me anytime!
Breaking it up in smaller chunks will definitely work for me, and it's not as brick-y as some of our BRs from the past :D I think I can manage that.
... Well, that's not exactly what I expected coming here. I thought I would just pop in, say hi before going to bed and check out the books sometime soon. But nooooo... I should have known better, of course you would rope me into a a BR immediately :D

I went ahead on Hobb, onto book 3 now, I'm taking so long you could probably catch me up 🤣
But me, you and Iain still need to read Way of the Argosi some time! I hope we get time soon.

True! I'm looking forward to read Ferius story!! Not sure if I can squeeze it in this month, but November would work for me I think :)
As for the Hobb books, I don't think so, my reading has slowed down immensely, the last couple of months I haven't finished a single book. Also I'm not sure I would be ready for one of her books right now 🫣

I definitely couldn't fit Argosi in this month but November should be doable! :)
Aw I can understand that, she is heavy going sometimes!

Aw, thanks! Yes, I'm doing great :) The year started a bit rough, as I went through a breakup, we've been together for 11 years and owned a house together. So with moving out and getting everything sorted, it wasn't the best of times, but it was the right decision and I'm really happy with my life now. And now it's time to also get back into reading! :D
I hope you're also fine? What have I missed?

Let's wait for Iain then, but I guess he will be more flexible with adding another BR anyway :D Do you have a startdate in mind?

I hope you're also fine? What have I missed?
Aw, bless you, that must have been hard, even if it is the right decision. I'm glad you're in a good place now.
I'm very well thank you :) Not an awful lot going on in my life, though I have just left my job a month ago and have decided to volunteer in the role that I actually wanna do to get some experience. FBR group-wise; dunno, not a lot really haha, just the usual BRs happening here and we've had a few new peeps join and become regulars. Can't say anything major has happened. Ugh tell you what though, I haven't had a good 5-star series binge since our Stormlight BRs!

I'm still on the old layout... enjoying it while it lasts... had the new layout for a month or 2, until a week or 2 ago...

I think it's a green/black cover, fantasy and very recent.
Thanks for anyone who finds the title!

Hi Saar the only thing that I could think of is possibly

That sounds really cool and like an important step in the direction of your dream job :) Hope you like your volunteer-position and best of luck for the applications afterwards :)
Me neither, my reads weren't all bad, but there was for sure nothing really outstanding. I still haven't read the last book of Abercrombie's age of madness series, I might do a re-read of the other two books soon. I'm in the mood for something dark and the best choice is and always will be Abercrombie :)

Urgh, got the new layout as well and it's terrible... Feel you on the corner part... Who the hell thought that would be a clever idea?

Ugh, it's a shame isn't it?! Sounds like a plan! I've not read that series yet, I believe my next Abercrombie will be Red Country, but I'm not in the mood for it yet...

Yes, that's the one! Thank you, Hailee!

Glad I could help. This series has been on my radar for a while but I never bought it coz of the bad covers. Maybe I'll check it out now that they are getting gorgeous covers.

Wolfsong certainly isn’t like any other werewolf book I’ve read. There’s so much wrapped up in the characters and family and belonging and feelings. And bloody battles as well. But yeah, UNF it hits those found family longings HARD. And I absolutely love how doggy the wolf characters are. It makes perfect sense, but I can’t think of other books that captured the wolfishness so well.
I admit it’s maybe not for everyone, since it’s… a unexpected combination of things. But it was memorable enough to reread for me, which doesn’t happen often.

Hahaha! Ohhh… algorithms!
You do have it unticked to use for the recommendations page, right? But it’s showing up on the main feed page anyway?
Not sure most people know about disabling recommendation shelves...
Go into My Books, next to Bookshelves at the top is (edit)... from here, you can choose which shelves give recommendations and which don't... you should disable recommendations from any shelf denoting books you didn't like or DNF'd... that's what I did, anyway...
You can also do some other neat stuff for customization. You can sticky the shelves you use the most to tag things, to cut down on scrolling. And you can customize your exclusive shelves. These are the shelves that GR makes "Read", "Currently Reading", and "Want to Read"... a few years ago, I went in and made a ton of "Want to Read - Genre" shelves and made them exclusive, so I could sort my TBR by genre... and an exclusive "Not for Me" shelf of things I didn't like...

So are they really recommending you not read those? 😂🤣

That’s such a good idea, although would be a major pain to go through 1000s of books for me. Also way too much genre-bending stuff to make them exclusive. The only clear-cut divide I can think of is fiction/non-fiction. Could probably separate out graphic novels as well, but those are negligible.

I think so. as well as a TBR pile I'm developing a list of titles for a TNBR (to never be read) pile. :D

My genre shelves are Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance, Historical, Steampunk/Weird Western. Mystery/Thriller, and Different... most of my shelves are 2 genres that can be used as a spectrum to cover alot of ground... Different and the original Want To Read shelves can be used for hard to categorize and weird mashups...
I should probably just merge Historical and Steampunk/Weird Western into Historical / Alt-History to cover anything vaguely set in the real world... steampunk, weird western, dieselpunk, etc etc etc...

I've also never been the biggest TBR user... and already had a bunch of genre and subgenre shelves... this was all part of my 2nd or 3rd round of shelf sorting...
My latest round of sorting got rid of my yearly reading shelves in favor of decade reading shelves, and a simpler ebook/audiobook/reread shelving system... things were getting unwieldy, when I re-read books 5+ times and was tracking what year I read/listened...
GR REALLY doesn't like when you try to batch edit your shelves 100s at a time... I had so many errors and timeouts... it was a long night...

Yeah, it's always easier to manage smaller shelves. TBH if I could keep it to 100-200 books on my TBR I probably wouldn't see the need to sort them at all, having a rough idea of what's in the offing. I think that was around when I stopped using the # ranking system for priority.
Haha, I should probably do a 1st round of shelf sorting. It's just a jumble that keeps on growing. "Trash-amoeba" comes to mind. Like a massive screaming katamari, growing ever more unwieldly because I must greedily grab at more for my hoard. The hedonistic no-face of books.

my theoretical new genre-historical-alt-historical genre/tbr shelf, genre-romance, genre-mystery, subgenre-m-m (this one wasn't that hard, I Buddy Read the book in the Naughty Book Club thread a few years ago :D)
In my early years of GR, I tried making literal series shelves, but that quickly became unwieldy... I converted to genres when I learned that past 100 shelves they would become multiple pages of shelves... then I slowly added subgenres and year tracking and stuff... then I felt that that needed cleaning after about a decade of tracking that way (I backdated to 2012ish and updated to decades earlier this year)...
It's so hard to go back and accurately reshelve books with new genre/subgenre details long after the fact... especially when so many books are on a spectrum as I like to say... Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance, for example... another reason I don't try to be too specific...

VOTING DAY!!!
Being a voter is nice and all, but I kinda celebrate this day more as the end of spam calls/texts and mailers... being a registered voter gets you more spam than any other list you add your phone number / address / etc to, I think... seasonally...

some representatives of Congress on the federal level, then representatives at the state and city and county levels... some judges/sheriffs/school district superintendents, etc...
US has elections every 2 years... some offices are held for 4/6 years, so not every position is voted for every 2 years, it's staggered...

So, I just read a blurb (Quarter Share) that referenced a "flitter," and it awoke a nostalgic memory. I was trying to think of which series I associated it with, but thinking of 20+ year old narrowed it down, and realized it must be Anne McCaffrey, who uses flitters in a number of different series.
It made me think of sci-fi tech and terms that transcend a single written universe, but how we may associate with our earliest encounter. Flitters, "credits" as money, androids... what are your Ur-examples?

Please & Thank You!
