Happy birthday! Did you have a good day?
Glad you're getting through your exams. Will all be over soon!

I’m sure you’ll do well on the exams and trust me ou will feel a lot better afterwards
That is pretty cool present which reminds me I need to get back to Harry Potter soon 😂😂😂😂

Thank you, I did! :D I spent the day with my family, just chilling and eating cake. It rained the entire day but luckily I like the rain, so it was all good. I even convinced them to go for a walk in the forest which I love when it rains – it's so calming hearing all the water drops hit the leaves.
Yessss, I'm so excited!

Yes, one can never get too much Harry Potter!!

Happy Birthday!

Thank you, Sarah! :D

Thank you! :D I don't, hahaha 😂 I've no idea where to put it, it's so massive!

Thank you! :D
Yes, it's absolutely incredible, it has basically everything from the movies: the Chamber of Secrets, Umbridge's office, Snape's dungeon, Dumbledore's office, the Whomping Willow, the Hungarian Horntail, Hagrid's Hut, even the Ford Anglia is included?
I will, but will probably take a few months to build haha xD

That's so cool!
Also, happy belated birthday! 🎂
It will be so much fun to build that castle! I got a Lego -Hogwarts for christmas when I was a kid and I loved it so much! Also, one is never too old for Lego, right?

Yes, I have some really fond memories with Lego, both from when I was younger and and now when I'm older. Also I live 25 minutes from Legoland so I've spent a LOT of time there in my life – I'm actually going again soon, because you can never be too old for Legoland either xD

So cool! Isn't it every child's dream to stay in a theme park forever? Our Legoland is over two hours away, so I was there only once when I was a child. It was awesome, though!

I love theme parks so much! Legoland and Tivoli in Copenhagen are my favorites but I've been to a number of really cool or memorable ones in different countries. I've never been to Disneyland though which is too bad :(

Does anybody know if it is indeed possible to ignore the question or simply answer with space-bars?
I've now decided to be strict and to not accept those requests. If a person can't even write down one sentence I assume they are not that interested and /or won't interact with me anyway.

I've had a few of those recently too. It must be possible to just not answer the question, or maybe they do the request through the app/ mobile view of the website because when I check my requests, the mobile view doesn't actually show their answers to my questions, I have to click on desktop view to get their responses.

I had the same problem at the beginning of the year. Thankfully it has stopped for now.

There seem to be a few funny little differences like this between the app and the desktop version :-)

They need to make sure the app and the desktop version have all the same features. I won't use it except to check if I own a book I find at the bookshop.

I use both the app on my phone (during lunch break at work) and the desk top version (in the evening at home) and I was horrified to think that I might have sent the odd friend request via the app not realizing that there could of been a challenge question to be answered :-(

That sucks, how am I supposed to decide if a person was just lazy or if it's a genuine request made via the app?
Keeping that in mind, would you guys accept a request without an answer if the person has a similar taste and a number of friends in common?

I do generally accept people even if they haven't answered the question though I personally feel a bit peeved by it!

I don’t have set a challenge question, but I only accept requests from people that have a similar tast - a few books in common - or that I like to have as a friend because we had talked before. So if they seem interesting and nice, why not? You can always remove them as friends :)
Mostly I also don't accept requests from people with more friends than books...

Yeah, that info about the app makes me think this is the more sensible solution...in the end your gut probably tells you if you actually want to be friends with somebody, right?

Friend-collecting does indeed seem like a thing here...
A similar taste is mandatory, of course.

I made an Introduction post just a few minutes ago, so I'm still pretty new to this community/GoodReads as a whole.
I'm looking to learn a bit more about buddy reading before I dive into it -- I love the way buddy reads can connect people. I'm starting to research into different ways that people discover their buddies, so please let me know if you'd be open to answering a few quick questions! I'd really appreciate it.
Also -- shoutout to the mods for the amazing resources provided about buddy reading, too! They've been hugely helpful.
Cheers

Feel free to message me or any other mods if there's information we can provide! We've tried to make everything easy and organized, but there are a lot of threads and we could also be missing something we could add. :)

That is usually a no go for me as well, I'm not interested in just accumulating random followers, I want to connect with people who will genuinely discuss books and share some common interests with me or help me expand my interests.
My other pet peeve, when your want-to-read list far exceeds your read shelf. I don't want my news feed clogged up with 30-50 updates a day from you about what you want to read but you actually only read 3 books in the past year. I think some people do it so they can have a lot of books on their profile. (I just deleted a girl who had over 29k books on her shelves but had only read about 30 in her 6 years on GR).

I'd probably care about that more, if I actually spent any time on the front page of GR anymore... I made GR.com/notifications my home page forever ago, when I got tired of all the changes GR was making to the site... I'd find things in my feed that interested me, comment, and then the next time I refreshed they'd be gone, because GR randomly picks and chooses what to show you to condense your feed... so I just don't bother anymore... I mostly refresh the notifications to find active chat threads I want to participate in, mostly buddy reads and the occasional catch-all "what are you reading" thread...
Speaking to TBR shelves, I pared mine down years ago, when it was growing bloated with books I'd probably never be in the mood for with my shifting tastes, and that was only 500ish books... I should probably delete half the couple hundred I have left, spread across a dozen unique genre TBR shelves, but I've already gutted them 2-3x... I find it better to just start scanning friend's 5 star genre shelves when I'm in the mood for something, these days...

I meant my browser home page... for the longest time it was just goodreads.com, since it's usually the first thing I check before work and after work...

And welcome to the group Leah, I hope you enjoy your time around here :)

But it's not for lack of trying!!

Although it is satisfying as hell when you finish a book that you’ve had on your to read pile, especially when it was a good one.

You're crazy...
So maybe I've read 207 books in 171 days, so far this year... or nearly 80,000 pages... I'm still having a slow month... I've only read 20 books in the past 20 days, and that includes novellas like Time's Echo, Devil in the Dollhouse, and Installing Linux on a Dead Badger... my pages per day has dropped from 417-528 all the way down to 349 for June... we'll see how bad it gets with my work situation changing on Saturday... :)
I actually checked my shelves, and my TBR is much smaller than I thought... probably 150 books, compared to nearly 2000 read, most of those in the past 6 years, as Anni pointed out... I never put too much effort into recording books I read as a kid or before signing up for Goodreads in 2013, the number from 2000-2012 wasn't very impressive, anyway...
