They have one book called the 12 Dancing Princesses where the King doesn't want them to dance so he locks them up but they get out and go dancing anyway, so he puts up an add that and Prince that can figure out how they're getting out can marry the princess of his dreams, and they drug the princes and go dancing anyway and the king kills the princes that fail the task. I had to explain to my kids ALL of the things wrong with this. Imprisonment, marrying away women like they're property, killing people, etc. These stories aren't the same when you thinking of the characters are real human beings.

I much prefer the modern day Disney and Dreamworks movies anyways where the female characters are fierce instead

@Stormblessed...clubbing my replies to your posts on here amd on Vent/RantHappy belated to your six year old, Di & too bad abt the lunch theft. Sucks!!!
There was this one woman earlier in the year (she quit the job) who used to eat my beautifully prepped hearty salad/wrap lunches almost DAILY...and I never worked up the courage to confront her bcuz she'd been going thru a hellish divorce and I reckoned she was prolly too distraught to notice what she was eating. I got so hungry I cribbed abt it once here during the Blackthorn and Grim BR and Mayim (sweetheart) commiseratingly wanted to teleport me her baguette.
Not one upping your bday burger story...aaah, you were prolly looking fwd to it...I wrote this post bcuz 1. Bday wishes + 2. Wanted to share this bcuz it happens to us all #cheerup...you are NOT ALONE...😊 the *yerks* are everywhere!
Also, since then I am slowly growing b@lls....mainly thanks are due to you, Di and Margret and Shaitarn and Siobhan (alphabetically 😂) who are always teaching me abt what's a pushover and stuff like this.
So thanks!
I never had anyone to teach me this kinda stuff before, Di.
For YOUR inner six year old:
(view spoiler)
ALSO, for you Di...

Deffo do not read The Nightingale and the Rose to your kids before prescreening it. I believe it was the base mythos for Colleen McCullough's the Thorn Birds. Kinda has a Little Mermaid theme too...I sacrifice myself for my luuuurve, n all....
I agree with Bea and Margret. My fave Disney heroine is Belle who loves books and has some snark in her...but the older films have...this...innocence...this charm...of before the world became so worldly...I dunno what I am trying to say...but you get it, right?["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Hey Shae, thanks for the tip on Mark Lawrence. Will check those out....
@Zara - My pleasure, when you get a chance to have a look, really hope you are as entertained by the M.L. Famous Five reviews as I was :-)

I got my 2019 profile pic armed and ready:

I had to rearrange the words, so the Eeyawn will appear in the GR trimmed square/circle, and the extra info will appear in profile/picture area... where I also linked to the source...

@ Zaara I think you're one of those kind, sweet people who the bullies realise they can take advantage, and do. It makes me so angry - kindness is so rare these days we should cherish it, not spoil it. Don't change, Zaara! We love you as you are :).I love Eeyore! Have done every since I read Pooh as a kid and he became my favourite character. I bought Eeyore's Little Book Of Gloom some years back and laughed like a drain at the wisdom of everyone's favourite donkey!
@Shaitarn...you are too innocent...Also...I am Oonagh...I am extremely EVIL 😈....what is is all this "sweetness" stuff?
Heeeeeehaaaaaahaaaaa
😂😂😂
Thank you for the sistahood, you!
I love you too.
All this holiday cheer around here...
Meanwhile...FINBAR is already excited for 2019...😂😂😂
Go for it, I-yaaawwn.

It's all Zaara's fault... her pointing out that Eeyawn == Iain was a revelation... I've never quite slept 20hrs before, but I HAVE managed 14-16...

And let us not be forgetting Siobhan's legendary donkey pic from the Grotto. Also, it looks like pirates have taken over my grammar....😂
EDIT OK I promised myself ten minutes on here and then back to reading....

Thank you! And I would have clubbed your coworker with you. And that you for the Calvin and Hobbes. I absolutely love them and they always make me smile.
I don't think there are notifications for new threads (bc GR sucks), so I'm here to invite y'all to this thread I createdhttps://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

New threads do show up in the notifications, but mentioning it here will totally increase how many people notice it haha. Nice idea for a thread. :)

Hm, I have some groups set to digest, but I haven't got any notifications in forever. Just set FBR to digest, we'll see what happens.

Has anyone ever searched something on google that you shouldn't and you feel uncomfortable looking through the results because of how dodgy it is?To give context I've been thinking about writing a story centred around paedophile hunters as in the people who catch those guys and its still in the idea phase since it is a heavy subject and I haven't found the right components for it yet
Pretty much I wanted to do some research on the subject matter and it feels really weird to do especially when google tells you that paedophilia is wrong and you should report it or get help. It also doesn't help that I keep thinking the police will come knocking at my door for doing some research on the subject matter.
Ok I'm gonna stop there

Anytime I search something questionable on Google, I follow it up with a search for "This was a mistake, FBI, no need to arrest me" :D
I've seen writers comment on how they worry when researching bombmaking or something for a book... or assassination techniques... how to get away with murder... etc...

Yesterday I had a heated gun control debate with someone on facebook and ended up doing all kinds of searches on the easiest ways to get a gun, etc. I am waiting for the FBI to do a search of my house for illegal guns. (FBI, I know you're reading this. I do not have any illegally obtained guns).

Is it weird hat I'm not too bothered searching up stuff like murder I guess this specific subject is a lot weirder for me Also if you wanna know something really weird I recently found out about funeral photography and videography (this was for a feature length script I'm working on) yes its a thing
So do any of you guys have any upcoming funerals and you need a photography/videography to snap a few photos for you to remember the final moments with the deceased or if you can't make it to the funeral no worries you can always film it and send it to whoever you want because that is definitely not creepy

I used to watch Six Feet Under... and Tru Calling... and iZombie... I think I know a thing or two about the oddities of morgues and funeral arrangements...

@ Diana Which is just what someone with a hoard of illegally obtained guns would say... ;DIt reminds me of a mug I saw 'Pay no attention to my browsing history; I'm a writer, not a serial killer.' I wish I could get one.

Can't watch this from work but I'll open it tonight :-)
Just wanted to share this excerpt from a review I read:The other thing, and this isn’t the style so much as the plotting, is all the sodding staring into the distance that they seem to do. Into the trees, into the fire, out of the window… What’s on the other side - a naked, three-testicled man swinging through the branches whilst singing, “I know where the chocolate is, and it’s in your bottom!”?? I think it’s supposed to convey drama, but I just found it a bit repetitive and lacking in either thought or imagination.
@Diana

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've been able to spend any time on here. A 2 year old that leaves a trail of chaos and destruction everywhere he goes kinda puts a damper on your reading, reviewing, blogging time. I hope all is well. My wife has some vacation time coming up so I might be able to hop into a buddy read or two while she's not working. Over the holidays she's got some time off too. So, once again, I might be able to hop in and say hey or do some reads. Being a house hubby to a wife that works 11-7pm means that the kids are mine for about 12 hours a day, so I'm very limited in my spare time and it's typically spent on video games since it relaxes my brain lol! Anyways, I've been thinking about all my buds on here. Feel free to message me directly and I'll do my best to respond. Take care, talk to you soon!

I’m not sure if anyone heard about it but the people who currently own the rights to it have created a VR experience of the book to pitch to investors and they have released the trailer earlier this year https://youtu.be/IDMar1iLMJ8
Looks pretty cool
Also me and my friend are working on a podcast in which we have already produced a few episodes (its mainly focused on films) but I will be producing my own podcast with him which will be more book related can’t give too much details but it’s gonna be awesome and I’ll let you guys know when we release it hopefully next year

Instead of buying railroads with fake money, you buy and trade “the hottest destinations,” which range “from your friend’s couch to the vegan bistro to a week-long meditation retreat,” using “experience points” instead of imitation bills.
Apparently it was unveiled last week... and is sold out already at a number of locations... and millenials are unhappy it exists (according to the internet, anyway)

The original was enough for me, as well... there are so many variations at this point, and some add weird rules, I think... really, I think the "classic board games" struggle to compete with the niche market that has all sorts of unique games, like Settlers of Catan and Munchkins and the like...

I love classic board games. I just bought Clue for myself for Christmas so I have one in Canada and one in Korea. Super excited to play again (and pick up a lot of Korean weaponry vocab)!
I do have to say, as much as I like the older games, Catan and some of the newer ones are great, too. Not sure I'd be into Monopoly for Millennials, though, considering I am one.

I have Monopoly on my xbox one so I can play with my nieces and assorted family when they come over. We have a big Yahtzee game going on today.

The only new game I really love is Cards Against Humanity, and that's not a board game.

Cards against humanity kills me every time. So funny.
I have a closet for all our games. We own literally all of them.

The only games I've played in my youth was frustration I don't really have people to play monopoly with so I'm not one for board games these daysI always get confused with millennials because I don't think I am one since I was born in the late 90s so its confusing but yeah I do hate the people who hate on millennials or the younger generation which is a rant for another timr
