Shanna | 40 comments One definition of "Fuse" is the following: a tube, cord, or the like, filled or saturated with combustible matter, for igniting an explosive..... so for this context "The Fate of Fuses" it refers to I think could have explosive consequences, & affect the men each differently yet at the same time. As for both Hal & John, whatever evidence Carruther's has against Siverly will be brought to court-martial so this could affect the career of both Hal & John.

Yet each know this respective explosion could be damaging & blow up in there faces given time. This court-martial will take place & possibly ruin their careers because of this evidence.

Celeste | 26 comments There are several fuses lit with these papers.
First, there's Grey and Hal and how it will affect their careers. Not only are they bringing charges against Siverly, these papers also name other men, "some of them powerful." While there appears to be enough evidence to bring Siverly to court-martial, is there enough to incriminate these other, more powerful men? How will these other men react? Seeing as they are powerful, they could possibly ruin Hal and John's careers over this, no matter the outcome of the court-martial against Siverly.
The second fuse is the Grey/Jamie fuse. I realize that at the end of this chapter it seems that Grey will not bring Jamie into it, but we also know that Hal is the one asking it...and Hal generally gets his way. The last meeting between Jamie/Grey was a bit of a disaster, and neither of them want to see each other again. So this could either blow up in his face or smoke and fizzle out.
The papers also bring the Twelvetrees family back into the picture. Hal killed Nathaniel, and Reginald nearly ruined Grey's career. Now he's named as being an associate of Siverly. This one just might blow up big!

Alina | 9 comments I have a side note: I am always impressed by how Diana Gabaldon titles her chapters. most authors do not seem to do that.

Alina, I agree! And the show does a great job of continuing that wity the visual version of the "title card "

Ah, a fuse...explosions! That not only affect Hal/Grey and Jamie /Grey but bring back the past!! J & G's complicated relationship; papers are bringing forth Hal's past as well. And explosions can have dire consequences for those involved, and even close by....
