Did you have a favorite book as a child? Was there one you couldn't get enough of? Was there one that influenced you?

What was that book?

Your challenge today is to see if the library has your favorite childhood book! Take a look at the Library's Catalog and see if we have it! If we do (or if you own a copy), check it out and read it.

My favorite childhood book was Dinotopia. Before you ask, yes, I was that obsessed dinosaur kid. My poor hometown library- I constantly had their copy checked out (it took a while before my parents caught on that they might want to buy me a copy). To me, that book was full of magic and possibility. I still believe I'll find that magic island out there, full of peaceful dinosaurs and their human companions. A girl can dream, right?

(And yes, the library does have a copy!)

The book that really started my love for reading was Bridge to Terabithia

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson

Before reading this particular book - I did not like reading and would try to get out of it as much as possible - seems my child takes after me in this aspect - but I read Bridge to Terabithia and fell in love - after that I searched for books that I could love.

So while there was not a particular book that I couldn't get enough of - this one was THAT book that influenced my love of reading.

Julie | 130 comments I had so many books I loved as a youngster, but I have a distinct memory of finding a fantasy book about dragons at the library, and enjoying it so much I found the rest of the trilogy (at the time) and read through all of them.

The book was Dragon's Blood by Jane Yolen
which led me to also read Heart's Blood by Jane Yolen and A Sending of Dragons by Jane Yolen

Surprisingly, the library does not have them all. It has the third and fourth (released in 2009 which I didn't know about) books, but not the first two.

I don't remember much about the books to tell the truth, except that I devoured them. Aside from the Hobbit (at the time) they were the first books where I was truly transported and it just furthered my love of reading.

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments The books I read were ones we had at home (not many trips to the library), but they were good ones. I read quite a few of Louisa May Alcott's book (my mom bought me a set for my birthday): Little Women (Little Women, #1) by Louisa May Alcott Little Men (Little Women, #2) by Louisa May Alcott Eight Cousins (Eight Cousins, #1) by Louisa May Alcott Under the Lilacs by Louisa May Alcott Jack and Jill by Louisa May Alcott , as well as The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe (I'm pretty sure my mom had bought the set, but by the time I was reading them, that was the only one left. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #1) by C.S. Lewis
