The 6th is fine. Message me if I don't get the email from the thread 😊

I definitely want to read the Drizzt books from the start. I last read them when I was a teenager. So between that and the Harper books with Shaitarn, that sounds like a good FR kick lined up for next year!
I've *ahem* acquired digital copies of all the books so can pretty much start on any of them.
We can organise a Drizzt read as I'd say there'll be a few interested in that? And then a separate Harpers one, and if any interest in any other series pops up we can just go with the flow for that.
I have a few reads lined up over the next month, but nothing too crazy....I think. So I should be able to fit them in whenever suits :)

If I had those copies too I would BR the whole FR series Sean but unfortunately I don't and can't afford buying the rest right now. (I'm talking about your list that is.) :) So let Mel and I know about Drizzt. :D
@Shaitarn - are you up for any other FR series?

The 6th is fine. Message me ..."
Let's wait and see if Sean and Deliatex will join us lovely. :)

(view spoiler)
While I think quite a few of the books could be skipped I'd definitely like to join a Drizzt read (I have a poster of the original Crystal Shard cover by Larry Elmore framed on the wall, so yeah, I'm pretty keen!).
I don't want to hold anyone up, so I wouldn't be that bothered to read The Icewind Dale trilogy first and the Dark Elf trilogy afterwards. (Sean, Delitealex, would either of you be interested in a Dark Elf buddy read?)
I'd be up for following Sean's idea: do a buddy read for Drizzt and then do the Harpers later, with the other series as 'possibles' afterwards. (It looks like second hand copies of several of the books can be picked up quite cheap on Amazon/Ebay).
If you guys would like, I can set up a folder, and thread for proposed schedules? Would that help? I understand the complexity in planning t series like these so let me know if I can do anything to help you guys out

Thank you so much Margret! :) That would be really great. We want to read the FR series but we're sort of stuck in not knowing what to start with. If you have any suggestion in helping us choose we would appreciate it.
For the beginning could you please set up a thread for the Drizzt complete series? We seem to have decided on doing that once a month.
@Shaitarn, Sean and Delitealex - if you plan on doing it from the beginning I'll reread the Dark Elf with you also. I loved those books anyway. And I am also sure other people will join for this series as we go on.
Could we do as Sean suggested? Plan for The Legend of Drizzt series 1 book a month and separately for the rest of Forgotten Realms (whichever series we choose to do)? That also 1 a month. In my case, I have checked with the library and they have most of the books available so I can join the BR by getting them from there - if we're doing a massive FR series read that is.
Which particular series of Forgotten Realms would you like to read Shaitarn? And how about you Sean?

I will watch for your threads 😊
Happy Reading!

I'm cool to start with the Dark Elf Trilogy or Icewind Dale - you can in theory read one or the other first and not have it be too much of an issue, so I'll just start with whatever the rest of the group is starting with and can catch up in my own time. They're fairly quick reads anyways.
The books are usually going fairly cheap - I know I've stumbled across a decent collection going second hand every now and then. And like I said, finding some digital copies floating around online is really not difficult at all, if you're remotely familiar with *ahem* sailing the seven seas.
So we can pick either Dark Elf Trilogy or Icewind Dale to start, based on what people have read, and then we can get everyone ready to start Legacy of the Drow within a couple of months. That sound like a plan?
Ok, after I drop my kids off at the day home I’ll at least get a folder and scheduling thread set up. You’ll just have to correct me if I start adding links to the wrong books :)
And don’t worry about clogging up the thread, it’s got to be difficult to plan.

That sounds good to me, Sean. Maybe we can decide what other FR books to do as we go along based on what people have/can be got cheaply or from the library.
@Laura, Melissia - I'd love to do a Drizzt buddy read from the beginning but don't want to upset your plans. If you'd like to do the Icewind Dale trilogy, we can start there and read the Dark Elf trilogy some other time.
Here's a (currently) complete and in correct order 'Drizzt list' that Mr Salvatore had helpfully put together (there was another trilogy which is out of print and horribly expensive (£70 a book) so I left that one out):

I spent a long time typing that out for someone based on memory. I wish I had known Salvatore has a master list somewhere (although I should have guessed). I've read everything up to Neverwinter. Except for the Cleric Quintet. It's a tangent from the main series with different characters, so you don't have to read it to enjoy Drizzt, although if you skip it like I did then there will be spoilers for it throughout as the storylines merge. If the group decides to tackle that one, I'm on board. :)

It's on his Facebook page :).

I'm in for the whole series including Cleric Quintet Niki. And whatever other FR books you guys think are ok.

Legacy of the Drow
Paths of darkness
The sellswords
I'm good with starting with the Dark elf trilogy

Its not much help, but it's a start. I'll check back in that thread and add BR accordingly, no need to notify on any other threads cause it'll be too much work.

Thank you Margret!
if we're starting with the Dark Elf trilogy than it's just a case of when is good for everyone. I have a slightly quieter schedule coming up, so it's a question of whenever's good for everyone else.

I like it because it has elephants in it and because there are so many imaginative ideas in it that I never would have thought of. Then there are lots of things to think about too!

We filter in Sci Fi on a consistent basis. A lot of it is a blend of Sci Fi and Urban Fantasy or Dystopia but there's a lot of Space Opera reads coming up between the Expanse series Leviathan Wakes and Children of Time. I'm overbooked right now but will add your book to my TBR and do it next year.

On a side, I recommend skipping the Icewind Dale Trilogy. It's the authors first published work, and dear god does it show! I also recommend skipping The Cleric Quintent because it's just really really bad from what I've read.
I might could read Steerswoman with you... it's the shortest Buddy Read suggestion I think I've seen... and caught my eye more than the other one, at the moment... apparently the author is working on a 5th & 6th book in the series...

Off topic I was wondering if anyone would be interested in reading Prador Moon by neal asher with me, its only 200 pages and he has a number of books set in the polity universe we could do the chronological order (link below) and I was think around May 2018, yes I know its far but I don't have many BR's on that month sooooooooo anyone want to join me?
https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WE0NuMU8vH...
I'll give it a go, Ahdam... The description of the Polity Collective reminds me a little of the Culture Books I read a few years ago... I read 3-4 of them a few years ago before dropping the series...

May next year is far enough away right now that it sounds good to me :)
I read some of the Culture books as well Iain - I loved the first one, then really could not get into the next two so I dropped them after that.
Same Sean... the first book had so much action... kinda like the first Expanse with so much happening, really... the 2nd one was very different, but the concept of the worldwide board game competition for emperor was interesting (view spoiler) ... but after that I just wasn't feeling it... I think I quit in the middle of Excession... I didn't understand why State of the Art counted as the fourth book in the series when it was an anthology of short stories...

I don't want to jump into the series too quickly so how about we set prader moon for the 1st of may and if we like it we can have a go at the chronological order?
Sounds good to me... I pretty much try to talk every newly scheduled Buddy Read into April-May onwards at this point... I've signed up for way too much in January/February/March already...

Part of the problem might be people know that books started before January 1st don't earn competition points... or maybe it's just not a good time, being right after Christmas... all I know is I'm trying to avoid signing up for anything else pre-April...

Sorry Chris, I'm trying not to start any new series for a while beyond the buddy reads I've already signed up for.

😂
I want to read this actually, but don't have it yet. If I can get a hold of a copy before then I'll read it with you. Problem is I'm already a wee bit overbooked, so I wouldn't want you relying on just me!

Haha sorry Chris! I'm trying to read books I own for my overflowing shelf challenge. And as others said, a lot of people might not want to read it because of the timing. You might want to propose a different time :)

Exactly, if you really really want to do a book read, don't give up.

I'm really interested in reading Dragon Champion, it's been on my TBR for a while but like others have said a post christmas time frame doesn't work for me unfortuanely. I really can't fit it in before February at the very earliest.
If you do read it after Christmas though I'd be interested to know whether you liked it.

I'd be interested, but have another buddy read starting on 1st, so might be a little late!

That's great Shaitarn! :) Welcome.
Late is okay. I'll be working and juggling school anyway so you may catch up to me pretty quickly.
So does that mean we're officially buddy readers? Can I ask that mods add the series to the buddy read list in the other thread now?
