me too Ahdam. We are clearly Drizzt virgins

I think they're leaning towards starting with Dark Elf (my fav, so a great place to start).
Homeland
Exile
Sojourn
We'll see about dates. I'm being "helpful" because I want to join in further down the series lol.

I'm going to start in later on down the line with the next one I need to read which is number 5 on my list whether it's right or wrong. =)

Actually once we get everyone "tucked in" for the night, its pretty slow. Just busy before 11 pm. We kind of had to change and cluster our care, as our unit was found to have the highest level of patient delirium in the country.... LOL

Are you all thinking of starting soon? March would be best for me but I probably could make it work.

Oh wow.

I came just to see the schedule... and nothing... from what I know, this series is as long or longer than Malazan... 30ish books and counting, right?...
Yes indeed, although I think the last trilogy was the final one. The perk of this series is that you can stop after each "set" with a sense of completion, so you don't have to keep reading unless you want to see a new story arc.
I believe that there are 34 books in the series. From what y'all have told me, these are a much easier read than Malazon. Most are not very long, 10-14 hour audio (that't the format I own). This list is mostly a good reading order:
Goodreads: The Legend of Drizzt Series
Though it doesn't include : The Sellswords Trilogy which my notes have between Paths of Darkness and The Hunter's Blades.
I don't know if waiting till the end is the right place for The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories or if the individual stories can be interspersed through the rest.
I'd be in for a buddy read of all or any part of the series.
I just finished the Dark Elf trilogy but if you all continue on with Icewind Dale series I will join in.
In total there are 39 books in this(!). At one a month that takes over three years. Maybe R A Salvatore will have written another trilogy by then!
Bill wrote: "Or we could jump into the other 200+ Forgotten Realms books."You know even though I'm thinking 'quality over quantity', there's a perverse part of me that actually wants to read all those FR books!

Same for me. As long as it isn’t to drastic a drop in quality I will probably check some out just to explore the world more.
Bill wrote: "Or we could jump into the other 200+ Forgotten Realms books."200+?! Are you kidding!? Or are there really that many?
Melissa ♥ Dog Lover ♥ wrote: "Thanks for the email Laura. We will get it sorted 😘 Thank you for being awesome!"Not as awesome as you lovely! :)

I'd like to read them too. :)

Honestly, I really don't know how you can make it Margret. It must be tough doing your work and managing to read that much also in between and putting up with all our requests too - It's pretty awesome!

285 to be precise. Don’t think I’ll ever manage more than a small portion of that.
I loved this series. I only got to book 16 and after that I didn't keep up unfortunately. I've also read the Sellswords trilogy, but that doesn't really have Drizzt. I am definitely in for this buddy read.
Like I said in the buddy read invite topic:Man, the idea of reading FR books has brought up a lot of interest. I'm so happy. And yeah, I'm up for giving all of it a shot. Again, anything I don't like will be fine as I can just read a synopsis and try again with the next book.
On a side, I recommend skipping the Icewind Dale Trilogy. It's the authors first published work, and dear god does it show! Just read a book summary for them. I also recommend skipping The Cleric Quintent because it's just really really bad from what I've read.
Margret wrote: "Ah trust me it’s fine :) night shifts are slow!"Aw man, I wanna get paid to read all day! :P
I used to get paid to read when I'd have to cover the gas station when people called in... not much to do unless someone was handicapped or their credit/debit card wasn't working in the machine... I miss that, but management didn't like it, so its probably for the best I'm not doing that anymore, anyway...
To be fair, there are a lot of shifts where I don’t really get a break at all... but yeah other than that, very nice on nights. Working days, there’s no opportunities to read

I don't normally go for what I hear or reviews. As it happens with Anne Bishop's Black Jewel Series, the original trilogy is the highest rated while some of the rest like Shadow Queen and Shalador's Lady are called bad and got crappy reviews. Those 2 are my all-time favourite books despite said crappy reviews and low ratings. I love them to pieces!! So I will definitely give a try to the Cleric Quintet also.
Margret wrote: "Ah trust me it’s fine :) night shifts are slow!"My husband is a doctor and I know how beat he is at the end of some of his shifts with one emergency coming in after another. So I still think it's awesome. :)

Well I'm saying that I myself have tried to read the first book of the Icewind Dale Trilogy. It's really terrible. You might enjoy The Cleric Quintet however.

Oh cool! What area does he work in? I work ICU and an in-hospital based medical emergency team. Used to work 90% ER, then they changed our schedules so we could only work two areas and moved all the senior staff to ICU positions :(
I get it though, it's either ridiculously busy or its super slow for me. We (understandably) try to not wake patients at night unless they're not doing well

IWD is definitely not the best, but I do think it's worth reading just to experience the events that happen to the main characters.
Cleric Quintet is totally skippable though, and it doesn't really impact the Drizzt series at all.
Anyways, this certainly blew up! Looks like starting with Homeland is the way to go! I know it's a busy time of year, but these books are short and hella easy to blitz through, so I think starting mid-December / start of January is doable.
We can definitely wait a bit if it looks like there's a pretty big interest, just to give us time to get everything organised and find a date that suits most.
Damn I'm excited! I can't wait to see what other FR series are going to pop up as reads as we go on with this :)

Yeah I know, this is gonna be so fucking sawheat! So glad I suggested the idea of reading through a lot of FR! Even happier that someone requested the harpers which inspired this idea!
BTW, you bring up another good points. These books are really short. Maybe we could try for 2 a month. That said, if this a crazy idea, by all means, I'm listening.
MorteTorment(Unofficial World's Fastest Reader) wrote: "BTW, you bring up another good points. These books are really short. Maybe we could try for 2 a month. That said, if this a crazy idea, by all means, I'm listening. ."Honestly, we could manage a trilogy a month - just saying!
I think one a month will just take too long, and they are really, really easy reads. If people could commit to two a month, perfect. But I don't think a trilogy a month, or every six weeks is too crazy an idea! We could just have one thread for each trilogy to keep things a bit neat and tidy?
@ Margret - He's a radiologist specialized in MR and his clinic is right next to a huge hospital that has the biggest ER over here. The policy for any ER patient nowadays is: "send for MR first" - so he gets all the ER cases to report in the night. Sometimes there will be only 2 or 3 other times up to 15 (especially during holiday times).@Sean - I could only commit to max 2 books a month with all the other extra scheduled BRs.
At one a month we would spend at least 17 - 18 years reading the FR books! Holy crap, I thought committing to WoT and the Erikson books until 2020 was pretty serious!Personally I'd still like to read all the Drittz & Co books, if only to say I have - if we start picking and choosing we would probably leave half the FR books (have any of you read Pool of Radiance? Now that's bad!). I'm not expecting them to be great literature or on a par with some of the other books I've read and hopefully will be reading - more a sort of 'snack between meals' if you will.
Here's the 'Drizzt list' - it's Mr Salvatore's own chronological list (it's on his FB site) for the novels. I know they don't all feature our drow as the main character, but I would still like to read them all because I'm an obsessive completest. And I agree with Laura - just because someone else loves or hates a book, it doesn't necessarily mean you will (which makes my last comment totally hypocritical. Ho-hum).(view spoiler)
I could commit to two a month, but I know other people have more demands on their time particularly at this time of year. Maybe we could schedule Homeland for December and Exile and Sojourn for January to see if we can all manage two a month?
Yeah I figure we'll just see what other series pop up as an interest as we read - say after three of Drizzt's trilogies, we might want something in the same style but not focusing on Dizzt, well hey look at these Harper books or something? How would a trilogy every six weeks sound? Just to keep us reading in trilogy format, rather than book by book. I think Legacy of the Drow is the only quartet that would confuse the schedule. Also I can't stress enough how quick these are to read compared to the majority of what folk are reading here. They're pretty much all ~300 pages with nothing complicated going on to slow you down.

Ok cool, so we just need a rough start date, then we can do up a schedule and get the threads going! I'm cool to start basically anytime in December, but am cool to wait til the New Year to give people time to get their affairs in order :)
