Buddy Read Invite (Retired)

I'm planning my October TBR and wondering if anyone would like to join me for some buddy reads?
The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories
[book:Stalking Jack the Ripper|4..."
I'd maybe be interesting in the "Stalking Jack the Ripper" sometime in October. XD

@Gaea and Katie - I can do Stalking Jack the Ripper any time from 9th Oct (when my library hold is due). Any date work best for you?
@Gaea - The Scorpio Races I'm hoping to start 1st October for a readalong on Bookstagram. But don't mind starting later if that's better. :)

re: Babel--the book shipped! It'll probably take another week to get here. Did you want to put in for a thread request or just read on one of the book clubs?

October 1 for The Scorpio Races is fine with me!
@Siobhan & @Katie
I'm also good with October 9 and onwards.

Let's put in a thread request for 2-3 weeks from now? Maybe that will get more people in on it :)

Sounds good! More people is good! I watched Daniel Greene's spoiler free review and am excited.
I'll leave it in your hands then.

Oct. 9th works for me!

Oct. 9th works for me!"
Awesome :)
So...
Children of Memory is a thing... a thing I need to read, the second it's released...
And that release day is technically November 24th... but Audible says the audiobook won't be available until January 23rd...
So... anyone interested in reading around January 30th? (that's the day I'd like to schedule it, for the usual 1 week early to 2 weeks late BR system we have around here with the competition)...
Knowing my luck, ebookers will all want to read it in November/December... Children of Time & Children of Ruin were great books, and I'm just so excited to discover a 3rd one is on the horizon...

BR requested for January 2023
(even if I was gonna make the thread myself, it's a good idea to pass all requests through the form, since I extended the functionality to generate a Buddy Read list, even if it just makes an extra step for mods requesting their own threads)

Sounds good...
“We’re going on an adventure.” -- such a creepy phrase, in context :D

1. The Fairy-Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley
2. Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher
3. Survival by Julie E. Czerneda
4. Spy × Family, Vol. 1 by Tatsuya Endo
or 5. The Great Book of Amber (This is the omnibus edition.) by Roger Zelazny
Nyssa wrote: "I am already thinking of 2023 and would like to know if anyone is interested in any one of the following series to start in January:

I have the first 3 Sisters Grimm books, starting with the Fairy-Tale Detectives, waiting to be tried...
And I'd be interested in reading more Zelazny, so I'll try Chronicles of Amber...
Codex Alera is a great series I read or Buddy Read a few years ago...
When were you thinking for Fairy-Tale Detectives and Great Book of Amber? My year is pretty open, so far, but I'm sure January will get cluttered, as more people start planning their series for the year... luckily, both these series look like pretty short books, as long as you measure Amber as 10 smaller books and not one big book to be read all at once... we can either do it as 10 smaller books, or two 5 book arcs, from what I read about the series...

I'm in for Furies of Calderon in 2023.

Here is what I propose:
Grimm and/or Zelazny - one a month January - September/October
Codex (Furies) - one a month - June - December
I'm so happy you guys are interested! :)

I'm interested in this! That start date works for me.

That's fine with me, for both Sisters Grimm & Amber... pick dates and start requesting... if you don't want to request all at once, at least request the first 2-3, and we can add the rest if the BR works, or adjust if we wanna go faster (the stories really seem pretty short)...

I need to get caught up in that series, but have a lot of open series. If I haven't by the time you get to where I am I'll hop in.

You should, it's a great series... keeps getting better as the big reveals start happening... big payoffs...

We plan to read the series at the pace of one book per month but would like leeway to adjust the times as reading speeds are established. Please and thank you.
I have also requested books #1-4 for the Chronicles of Amber series. To be read Jan-Apr 2023 w/ the same instructions.
And I have requested threads for all six of the Codex Alera series to be read Jun - Nov 2023 at a book per month. (I opted to leave December open since that is a busy time for many people).

Loved Amber and Codex.. might lurk in the threads because I don't feel a need to reread these.. (oh god I'm going to end up rereading these too aren't i? xD)
Me and Anni are going to read What If? 2: Additional Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions, sometime around October 28th...
Anyone is welcome to join us... no need to read the first book... the book is exactly what the title says... written by the author of the xkcd webcomic... https://xkcd.com/
The book is available in print, ebook, and audiobook narrated by Wil Wheaton... the print/ebooks include diagrams and little comics to accompany the stories, the audio mostly just includes the text... however you choose to read it, it'll be a fun book if it's anything like the first one... me and Anni read that one a few years ago, and a similar book published by the author: How To: Absurd Scientific Advice for Common Real-World Problems (alright, but less fun/awesome)...
I'm putting the request in now, and we'll adjust the start date depending on when we get our copies... this was mostly just a heads up and maybe to garner extra interest, since there's already 2 of interested in reading it...

The Vagabond Crew have some more 2023 plans lined up that we want to share, and see if anyone wants to join us:
The Heartstrikers series, starting with Nice Dragons Finish Last... we were thinking of starting January 15th, monthly BRs, through to Last Dragon Standing and maybe continuing into the DFZ trilogy with Minimum Wage Magic / Part-Time Gods / Night Shift Dragons... most likely in a single series thread... this is a fun series, and will be a re-read for a few of us...
And the Sun Eater series, starting with Empire of Silence... several of us picked it up on the big Audible end-of-summer sale and look forward to trying it out... new to everyone, starting January 22nd and read monthly, with the short stories done in-between on a looser schedule, if readers have access (probably with quick synopses for people that don't have the short stories, like we like to do when things like this come up in the past)... separate BR threads for each main book and any preceding short stories/novellas (so The Lesser Devil would be discussed in the Howling Dark thread)...
We also plan to read the Laundry Files in 2023, starting with The Atrocity Archives... this will take place in the Vagabond Treehouse thread, most likely, and hasn't been nailed down yet, but anyone is welcome to pop in and join...
We did a number of Vagabond BRs throughout 2022, including The Broken Room, An Illusion of Thieves / A Conjuring of Assassins, Middle Falls Time Travel Series, The Misfit Soldier, Legends & Lattes, Redwall, the first half of the Marla Mason series starting with Blood Engines, Midnight Crossroad / Day Shift / Night Shift, The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, and probably a bunch I'm forgetting... we're currently near the end of the Chronicles of St. Mary's series, having read from The Very First Damned Thing to Plan for the Worst, and all the fun short stories in between...

I'd give it a try, if we could get to it before the end of the year, I think... and it's not connected to the author's previous India-inspired duology (that I haven't read and would feel the need to go back and read first... I tried finding out if they were connected, or if GR just called them related because they're from the same author, but information was lacking)...

Please keep us updated on this one. I'll try to join in if I can.

… Oh never mind, I guess you’re already reading St.Mary’s.
I can’t keep up with the book clubs, and it’s easy for these kind of invites to get buried and forgotten, so would it be possible to add them to the Master List so people know when they are coming up? It’s disappointing to see after the fact that I’ve missed out on BRs I might have liked.

Book club reads tend to be spontaneous, Niki has tried getting people to report them on a thread to be listed but I'm not sure how successful it was. In the YA Book Club I just always update the thread title so people can see what's being read at the time.
I'm always so happy to find people interested in reading St Mary's!! Great series. I'd be up for a reread next year if you want company, Melissa :) I bet Charlie would be game too.
