Buddy Read Invite (Retired)
Well said :)
Agree on Malazan. I considered doing audio for it then decided against it ultimately. But I think if I re-read it then maybe audio would be ok
And agree with Hobb's books are more enjoyable with audio. I think I really enjoyed Farseer as a result of the emotional narration

I'm down :)

I also use audiobooks when I am knitting.

I would (unless you're sick of me by then, of course! :)). I remember reading the first book years ago and really enjoying it, so I hope the trilogy holds up!

of course it would be great if you joined our little buddy read:). We have set it for the 1st of June and are planning to read all the 3 books one after the other.
Laura and Hacen yes 15th June works for me. I have two other buddy reads in June, but as this is short stories I'll be able to work it around the others. :) I'll set up a thread in Standalones.

Here's the link: https://s2.netgalley.com/catalog/book...
for those of you who have this on their TBR :)

Do you want me to create the thread/discussion?

Hi Laura and Hacen, if one of the other moderators don't get to it first I can set up folder tomorrow when on my computer.

I don't see it added to the shelf, nor can I find a start date in the thread.
I was waiting to hear back from Jenna. I think her work has been really busy. Jenna are we okay to start Malice mid June?

Yes to the busy part and yes to mid June! I've actually been avoiding Goodreads a little bit lately so I can get at least 6 hours of sleep a night...I've only been sleeping 3~5 hours lately.

Hacen and Laura I've set up a folder and thread for Dragon Prince.

I'm reading Dresden Files #8 Proven Guilty around the 24th March if anyone was up to that book in the series. Let me know if you are and have time to read it around that date.

I already read that book, I think it was very good. I hope you will like it

So far I read up to Dresden files 10.

We have a buddy read already scheduled for April 1st, so feel free to join us :)

Just comment on this discussion when you are reading the book:

You can say whatever you like: what you think will happen, what you liked, what you disliked. Just make sure to mark your spoilers with some indication as to where in the book you are talking about. (find out how to mark spoilers under "some html is ok" on the right hand side of your comment box)

I haven't got plans past the middle of April yet and I've been wanting to read "Six of Crows" for a while so I could read it with you Laura :)

I've been thinking of reading this book also and I think I'll join in as well Quinn

I'm free anytime after the 17th. Maybe the 24th?
Quinn are you looking to just read the first one initially? If so just set up a thread in standalones and then if you guys continue one of us mods can create a folder. :)

I believe a narrator is worth +-1 rating to a story. I didn't suffer through WoT as badly as some on those middle books because Kramer and Redding are just so good. On the other hand the narrator of The Black Prism ruined the series for me.
I also would never do a series like Malazan on audio. You would just miss way too much. I have actually just started buying the audio with the kindle version and have read along with the narrator. BotF is using a different narrator than empire. I really liked the DoD narrator but don't like the OSB one.
I do feel for most series it really doesn't matter if you if you read it or listened to it. For instance with Riyeria I've done both and TGR is a great narrator. I've been able to read or listen to the content and I don't feel it's mattered. I've read or listened to Mistborn books and Kramer is again terrific.
I think about 20% you simply have to read and about 20% I probably wouldn't have liked as much without a narrator assist. I think as far as having to read so you get the nuances of what the writer is telling you it's probably 10-20%. Let's be honest the vast majority of popular books today are written at middle school reading level. Even Sanderson who we all love could be read by a 12 year old and I'd know but my kids have read him and not just the YA material. Mistborn or Stormlight are no more difficult to read than the Reckoners. There's more going on but the sentence structure and vocabulary is pretty basic.
