Julie J | 45 comments Looks like you already have a lot of ideas, but here are some more...

FREEBIE: Pick any book that you would like to read.
MOVIE: Pick a book that has been made into a movie.
COLORS: Choose two books that have two different colors in the titles. Ex. Blood Orange and White Oleander.
CITY: Choose a book whose title contains the name of a city or place. Ex. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
OH CANADA: Read a book about Canada, by a Canadian author, or a biography about a famous Canadian (actor, musician, etc.).
HIGH SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS: Choose two books from this list of required high school reading. http://www.vocabulary.com/classic.html
FRIENDLY RECOMMENDATIONS: Read a book recommended by a friend.
INDIE NEXT LIST: Choose two books from the Indie Next Lists for September, October, or November.
http://www.indiebound.org/indie-next-...
NOT-SO-NEIGHBORHOOD BOOKSTORE: Find a bookstore on Goodreads and choose a book recommended by that bookstore.
BOOK CLUBS: Read a book chosen by a book club (online or in person) of which you are already a part (or join one) or choose one of the TNBBC choices for September, October, or November.

Hope some of those help!

message 170: by Manday (new)

Manday | 212 comments It is the 9th/10th/11th month of the year, read a book that has 9, 10, or 11 letters in the title.

--or--

While we recognize September, October, and November as the 9th, 10th, and 11th months of the year, they were originally the 7th, 8th, and 9th, as reflected in their names. Read a book thats title contains a word that has two different meanings.

Read two books that share homophones in their title.
(example: A Separate Peace and A Salty Piece of Land)

(or some variation of these)

I also love the challenge about moving through the hemispheres!

message 180: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (affie) | 371 comments I don't know how to best describe this idea, but read a book with a... 'balanced?'... title.
Examples-
The Sound AND The Fury
Fathers AND Sons
The Red AND The Black
It could be or instead of and in the title- it would just need to be... balanced.

message 191: by Donna Jo (last edited Aug 07, 2009 04:57PM) (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 207 comments Count the number of letters in your first name or your last name. Read a book with that number of words in the title.

Read a book with the name of a spice or herb in the title.

With Thanksgiving in this quarter's challenge, what are you thankful for? Read a book that features whatever it is.

Read a fiction or nonfiction book that features motorcycles or motorcyclists.

Read a book set during the Industrial Revolution.

Tea drinkers take note. Read a fiction or nonfiction about tea.

Read a book set in the next adjacent country to yours. Australians, hmmm. New Zealand or Antarctica?

Read a book written from an animal's viewpoint.

Read a disaster novel--either natural (Snow storm, tornado, tsunami, etc.) or manmade (burning buildings, Titanic stuff, etc.)

Read a collection of poetry (at least 100 pages) and read a biography, memoir, or autobiography of one of the poets in it.

Leave this site up and allow readers to choose one of the unchosen ideas for that task. Reader must print the full task out along with book title.

Read a book with the word (singular or plural) Aunt, Uncle, or Cousin in the title.

If you were going to name a baby, what would you name it? Read a book by an author or main character with that name.

message 194: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (klonk) I think there's something dark but nice about the fall, and sometimes I need a bit cheering up this time of year. So, read your favourite book!

Donna Jo Atwood | 207 comments Read fiction or nonfiction books about two different wars (any country, any war).

And I know just the book I'd choose if this became a task. It would be a re-read, but I wasn't a grandparent when I first read it, and would be interested to see if I looked at it differently now.

Banned Books Week Sept 27 to Oct 4 Read a book from the most challenged book list http://www.bookspot.co..."
Yes! And perhaps post why the book was put on the list - some of the 'reasons' are really ludicrous.

message 199: by Deirdre (new)

Deirdre Skaggs (deirdre04) Some of these ideas are fantastic! I love the random-word generator, the colors of fall, the Halloween words, and the astrological signs ideas in particular.

After just having finished a book by Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King), here's an idea:

Find an author who has used or does sometimes use a pseudonym. Read one book originally published under the author's actual name and one book originally published under the author's pseudonym.
