FREEBIE: Pick any book that you would like to read.
MOVIE: Pick a book that has been made into a movie.
COLORS: Choose two books that have two different colors in the titles. Ex. Blood Orange and White Oleander.
CITY: Choose a book whose title contains the name of a city or place. Ex. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
OH CANADA: Read a book about Canada, by a Canadian author, or a biography about a famous Canadian (actor, musician, etc.).

FRIENDLY RECOMMENDATIONS: Read a book recommended by a friend.

While we recognize September, October, and November as the 9th, 10th, and 11th months of the year, they were originally the 7th, 8th, and 9th, as reflected in their names. Read a book thats title contains a word that has two different meanings.
Read two books that share homophones in their title.
(example: A Separate Peace and A Salty Piece of Land)

2) Lots of discussion about back-to-school. Has anyone suggested a book set in a school, or about school events?
Thoughts for November dates....
3) Viva Mexico -- In honor of Mexico's Day of the Dead, and their Dia de la Revolucion (Revolution Day) read a fiction or non-fiction book about Mexico, set in Mexico or written by a Mexican author.
4) The Leonids meteor shower reaches its peak around November 17. Read a fiction or non-fiction book about astronomy, astrology, stars or space exploration
5) International Men's Day is commemorated on the 19th of November. Read a book with "Man" (or Manly, Mannish, etc.) as part of the title.
6) Remembrance Day is celebrated on November 11 in the Commonwealth of Nations and various European countries (including France and Belgium) to commemorate World War I and other wars. It is known as Veterans' Day in the United States. -- Read a book set during WWI.
7) November is Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month. -- Read a book (fiction or non-fiction) about the disease, or a book that is about memory, or has 'Memory', 'Remember'. or 'Forget' in the title.
8) November 6, 1947 -- "Meet The Press" makes its television debut. Read a book about, or authored by a political reporter.
I also love the challenge about moving through the hemispheres!

It could be or instead of and in the title- it would just need to be... balanced.

Read a book that has either a made up word or a word that you have never heard of/dont know the meaning of in the title
Read a book with a number in the title (not spelled out - must be a 1, 2 or 3, not a one, two or three)
Arrange your unread books that you already own together. Close your eyes, spin around 3 times and point to a book. Read the first book you point to. OR AN ALTERNATIVE have someone else (spouse, child, friend) close their eyes and point to a book on your shelf and read the first one they point to
Get International - Read a book that takes place in at least 3 different countries.

And I know just the book I'd choose if this became a task. It would be a re-read, but I wasn't a grandparent when I first read it, and would be interested to see if I looked at it differently now.

After just having finished a book by Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King), here's an idea:
Find an author who has used or does sometimes use a pseudonym. Read one book originally published under the author's actual name and one book originally published under the author's pseudonym.
