Movie based on the Essex: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1390411/

In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex
I have it on my nightstand hoping to read it alongside Moby Dick

The reason why I had nominated this book was for that reason. It was my dad's favorite book growing up, so I got him the movie "In the Heart of the Sea". I followed that up with some research and fell in love with the story, just as Herman supposedly did and now I feel like I must read it. The story of the Essex is such an incredible story, I can only imagine that Moby Dick will do it justice.
