I'm intrigued by Bailey's role in all this too--I mean why is he there in Poppit's vision?? I've liked him throughout the book so I'm glad he plays a bigger role. I really like his scene with Isabella--it was so vivid to me. One nice thing about listening to the audio is that you can close your eyes and picture things more vividly when Jim Dale is talking.
Marco seems very manipulative in regards to Chandresh. Methinks he picked some nefarious skills up from Alexander!
Oh no! Bailey didn't make it in time? Did the circus leave early because everything was starting to fall apart? Wow, now everything is starting to go crazy. Did Alexander manipulate Theissen's death or was he just trying to protect himself in the moment?
Marco does seem to be turning a bit to the dark side. Maybe he was just upset at Chandresh for snooping in his stuff.
I was a little surprised at an "out of wed-lock" sex scene in a time frame of early 1900's, but I suppose that sort of thing happened back then too, it just wasn't talked about.
I like Bailey too. I am looking forward to seeing what part he will play in everything.

As for the 'out of wed lock' scene, it happened a lot back then, and is discussed in a lot of the books, it just wasn't polite conversation so that salacious gossip was left for afternoon tea ;)
Marco has tied everything together in the circus. Chandresh put him in charge of everything and then a drunken, run down, apparently depressive Chandresh came stumbling in and destroyed his filing system...I'd be upset too.
I love the inclusion of small, seemingly inconsequential things that build upon themselves so that a sentence here or there really creates the world for us...like the new kittens Poppet and Widge receive for their birthday, the color of dress people wear...all of that seems like needless details until, BAM, its a major twist or part of a plot point.
