Happy reading everyone!

You can start any time. I have only listened to a few pages worth. I am going to go at it full force on Monday too.

I will get started on mine today. I have 90 min maximum a day dedicated to this book. lol
That is until my middle grade read-a-thon starts.

I'm very excited for this...This is my second read-along and my first group one! :P

Slow reader my foot...you finished Serafina super fast lol.

Welcome!
I'm so excited that we have more friends jumping on board for this read-a-long. Welcome everyone! Please go at your own pace and don't feel pressure to read at the same speed as anyone else. Just enjoy the book. Just come back and comment when you finish each part.
I'm about to start some household projects so I'm getting my Playaway (audiobook) ready to go. I was just looking at the box and it says it is 13.5 hours which would take 9 days at 90 minutes per day. I would like to get it finished before Akoss's readathon so I'm going to go for 1 part per day. (That's just my goal, ya'll read it however fast or slow you want). It avgs out to 3.5 hours per day to get it done in 4 days, plus I can speed up the playaway and listen to it in less time.
Wow! That was spoken like a true nerd wasn't it? HaHa! I'm very "task oriented."
I like Jim Dale as the narrator. I think he also narrated the Harry Potter books, although I've never heard any of them. He also narrated the Peter and the Star Catcher books by Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson. Those are awesome!

I think it's just because Jim Dale is the narrator, but I keep associating this book with Pushing Daisies. Like I see Tara and Lainey as the Mermaid Sisters from Pushing Daisies. I think Bryan Fuller could make this into an excellent film if he had enough funding.
So far, my favorite character is Bailey---maybe because he's the only average one?? I wonder who that girl he met at the circus is.
I really like all the different characters in this book--they're all so diverse and interesting. I'm really interested in the backstory of Alexander and Prospero--I mean how did they get started into this wager business in the first place?
I hope I hadn't spoiled anything in this post--I'm trying hard not to reveal anything past Part 1.

Okay, so I have finished Part 1. I'm glad that I have the print book as well. Since the time line skips around a bit, I can follow it better by keeping up with my progress in print as well as audio.
I am liking it so far. I was thinking that Isobel was going to turn out to be Celia, but I guess not. Now it's looking like there could be a love triangle of sorts.
I was wondering what Bailey was going to have to do with anything until right at the end of Part 1 when the circus reappears. So now I am excited to see what happens next.

The fluidity of names is intriguing to me. Celia is constantly trying to hold on to hers and her father changes it for whatever whim he's following, Mr. A. H--- rarely has a full name, or any, and is referred to as 'the man in the gray suit' more often than anything, and Marco has had to keep his name silent for years because there was no call for a name...very interesting. Even Isobelle's name "sounds like a lie" when she introduces herself. Very intriguing.
The idea of the circus and how it comes about is very, very fun to me. The way things are tossed back and forth in the time line is fun as well, though I'm glad I haven't gotten the audio book yet since Elizabeth mentioned that was a difficult thing to follow.
AND THAT CLOCK - the description is simply scrumptious! I want to see it in person and just idly sit nearby and read as it transforms. Can you imagine days spent tranquilly reading and whiling away the time beside the clock and nights spent exploring or performing in the Night Circus?

That is an interesting reflection on the names in the book. I had not given it much thought except that I did wonder why Celia's father thought her name should have been Miranda. Does that name have some historical significance in magic or circuses? I know there is another book called Circus Mirandus. But I don't know what the connection is.
The writing style is very beautiful and lyrical. Of course there was the one "F" bomb thrown in at the beginning. Whyyyyyy is that necessary? Ugh! At least it isn't occurring commonly throughout the book so far.
I am still listening to it on audio, but following it pretty closely in print and I do still have to go back and look at the time line to keep it straight in my head.

I believe it was a veiled reference to Shakespeare's play "The Tempest" where a young girl is raised by her magician father (alone on an island maybe...it has been a looonnngg time since I took that class! OR rather..pretended to take that class. Not sure I showed up enough to constitute actually taking the thing)

That would make sense because there is a quote from The Tempest on the opening page of Part 5. Apparently the magician father's name is Prospero. Thanks.

How is everyone doing? I put a few discussion questions in the thread for the last sections. As you finish each part, don't forget to chime in and talk about what you think about it so far.

I was irritated, but that is over fairly quickly and it melds into something later on that takes an interesting turn...at least in my opinion.

True, they didn't get much of a childhood. It is argued later that since Marco was an orphan, he would've had a pretty difficult childhood otherwise. However, to bind them for life does seem very selfish on the part of the teachers.

I had the same thought about Isobel. I really hope there isn't a love triangle. Gah!!!

Although I love the writing style and the intrigue that's keeping me going, I have to say I don't care much for the different timeline jumps. Like Elizabeth said, it's probably easier to follow in written format than audio. Plus I listen to mine while in traffic (a terrible one at that).
So overall, I like the story and will continue to listen. I hope there isn't a love triangle coming my way, but... yeah
Also what's up with the binding thing??? Like seriously?
Somebody said it's selfish and I have to agree.
Meanwhile I'm curious about how Bailey's story is going to fit in all this, along with the red-haired twins. :)

Parts 2 and 3 were definitely my favorites! The time jumps were a bit difficult at first but I got used to them so hopefully it won't be too difficult for you!
