SOLVED. Sci-fi story about a girl left on a planet/ forced to survive [s]

It was sci-fi, I think for young adults. I can't remember the author.

From what I remember there was some rite of passage that all young adults had to go though. They were left on a planet and had to survive (separately that is?). It was focused on a young woman. It wasn't mentioned specifically, but I think that abandoning them on the planets was for population control.

I *vaguely* recall the cover; there was a space pod on the planet with a figure (the girl) next to it, or so I think.
