Remember the tone mostly. He's struggling to survive in a strange forest. He is attacked by a large tusked monster and must sleep high in the branches. He later is assaulted by a monkey-like creature who will become a companion, teaching him how to crack open a stone like fruit with bitter black liquid in it. Thats really all I can remember. Wish I had character names. Read it between 2004 and 2006.
